An Ozark, MO man says he had a peculiar visit this week. Clay Bowler says an FBI agent wanted to know about any confrontations with Representative Billy Long.
Bowler, a political blogger, would attend Long's campaign events during the summer and ask political questions, even following Long to his car, hoping for answers on different topics. Tuesday, Bowler recorded the interview with the FBI. On the recording, Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott says Billy Long's staffers gave authorities Bowler's name.
Bowler understands after the shootings in Tucson the FBI is trying to be proactive in finding threats, but he says he shouldn't be on any lists, that he would never do anything violent to anyone. At the end of the recording, the FBI agent agreed that Bowler did not appear to be a personal threat to Long.
We made attempts to reach Representative Billy Long and members of his staff - as well as the FBI and Capitol Police. We can tell you, Capitol Police held a meeting with elected officials in Washington, D.C. today to talk about safety.
We're told the Greene County Sheriff was with the FBI agent in Ozark because their investigation initially said Bowler was living in Greene County.

Does a sheriff have any authority in a county where he is not sworn as such? Did he get authority from the other sheriff’s office to enter and be active in another county? I am surprised in 2011, the FBI is so lost as to not know the county of an address, when the sheriff is riding along. That sheriff was on a date with the FBI guys. A little shameful of the hussy.

I had always thought that Obama and the progressive movement had elements of the Wilson administration today.
Woodrow was the father of the Progressive movement for the most part and starting locking up and harrasing his political opponents for dissent.
Of course the most famous Progressive FDR locked up an entire race.

This is the first time I have heard of Billy Long.
I live in Greene County and know several of our local elected officials including Jim Arnott. He is a very professional law enforcement officer. I’ve been somewhat active in local politics but don’t know this guy Bowler. I’ll try to get some more information on this incident. Congressman Long has never held elected office so his staff is probably new to the job also. There may be more to this story - a previous political reporter that worked for this station was a big lefty.
So it begins. There will be ZERO tolerance for political dissent against socialism.
Long time republican representative (MO-7) Roy Blunt ran for the US senate seat vacated by Kit Bond.
In the August, 2010 republican primary, Billy Long and 6 others ran for that open seat. Long won with 36% of the vote.
Long won with 63% of the vote in the November, 2010 general election.
Billy Long has been in office since January 3, 2011.
I hope Beck, Limbaugh or Hannity picks up on this. Chilling to say the least.
Legitimate threats should be explored.
Using the FBI to chill critical political opponents is a huge no-no.
I would caution we do not know a lot about this guy.
I’m trying to imagine someone coming back from a shot thru the brain. What are the odds? Her doc guaranties 101% survival. Okay. I accept that possibility. But to survive a brain shot, then come back to the political arena, isn’t this a bit of a stretch.
Are there a number of cases, where someone who has been shot thru the brain, returns to functional normalcy?
That is creepy if you ask me.

I also heard Linda Lopez say to a Fox reporter on Saturday that the shooter was an “Afghan war vet” and that Ms. Giffords’ father told the police his daughter’s enemies were “the entire Tea Party”. The latter comment by the father was perhaps understandable under the circumstances, but Lopez’s voice was dripping with contempt about the supposed vet. A family member of mine who is active duty military heard it and almost became physically sick at the thought. I have no idea who told Lopez that - Sheriff Dupnik, perhaps - or on what basis they did so.
