Ron Paul wins repeatedly, but doesn’t even come close to winning the primaries.

I wouldn’t take the poll too seriously these days.

Ron Paul’s showing, according to Coulter, is the result of CPAC’s extremely young audience, one without home ownership, children, or perspective.

And she’s right. A lead in a straw poll (or lack of one) at CPAC really means nothing.

“Define “too libertarian” for you. Does that mean that he’s too much like the founding fathers for you?”

He’s a nut...he’s coockoo,,,insane

In addition to that he is a blame America first, Reagan hating, 911 Truther, Alex Jones loving nitwit.

So, no, he’s nothing like the Founding Fathers.

I’m glad Romney didn’t win.

But

1)Paul
2)Romney

blech, barf, vomit,

1)Ron Paul – 30%
2)Mitt Romney – 23%
3)Gary Johnson (former NM governor) – 6%
4)Chris Christie (NJ governor) -6%
5)Newt Gingrich – 5%
6)Tim Pawlenty (MN governor) – 4%
7)Michelle Bachman (MN Congresswoman) – 4%
8)Mitch Daniels (IN governor) – 4%
9)Sarah Palin – 3%
10)Herman Cain (former Godfather’s Pizza CEO) – 2%
11)Mike Huckabee – 2%
12)Rick Santorum (former PA Senator) – 2%
13)John Thune (SD Senator) – 2%
14)Jon Huntsman (former UT governor) – 1% (this POS makes Romney looks conservative)
15)Haley Barbour (MS governor) – 1%
OTHER – 5%
Undecided – 1%

1)Senile and can’t win anyway, it’s a joke he’s even in the poll
2)Unacceptable
3)Johnson is for drug legalization isn’t he? That would go over great, let Obama run to the right on drugs.

Top 3, 59% for total non-starters. What a joke.

It’s nice to see Huckabee and Thune so low. Surprising to see Palin so low.

BTW the ACU (CPAC’s sponser) ratings for 2010 are out.

http://www.conservative.org/congress-ratings/

Looks like most of the “conservative” rats that got ousted last November had a dip in their ratings from 2009.

Happy daze will never be here for paulnutz! Put down the bong, man!
Do you think any candidate with any real chance would name “loose cannon Ron” to any post? You just never know what’s next from RP. He’s doing just fine where he is in the House, don’t push the luck.

I do not support continued welfare spending to other countries, but Paulists are nutsacks with how they are handling these issues. Most are leftwing retards.

She would tear into Obama with relish, and I would very much enjoy that.

Well, she didn't do that with Biden in 2008 when she had her national audience watching. She tried to make nice, a la Jack French Kemp with Algore.

Re-read the posts and think I may have jumped the shark.

A Paulbot is someone who is here just to pimp Ron Paul, not to add to the discussion. In other words, a troll.

Like I said, I jumped the shark there...

What makes Paul a left wing loon on foreign policy? Every time I’ve heard him speak on the subject he actually takes the same position in which GWB did, prior to actually becoming president.

First off, 9/11 changed things. Secondly, Rep. Paul has maintained his position that “Neocons” were behind the Iraq and (I believe) Afghanistan wars, and that if we just would leave them alone, they would leave us alone. Clearly, Paul doesn't understand radical Islam or is pandering for votes on the antiwar Left. Either way, Paul's stated views are completely in-line with the Loony Left, and the main reason I couldn't support him.

Romney is a big government “conservative” (RINO) for one.

Ron Paul and Gary Johnson appeal to the same constituancy, so I’m surprised that Paul finished in first. I don’t think that both will run.

“It makes one wonder if the activists there think Sarah’s become unelectable.”

I do think that’s the case. Sarah Palin has been smeared by the MSM almost non-stop since becoming a national figure. Too bad, as she didn’t deserve it. I think that she should contribute to the cause in a non-candidate capacity. She can still do a lot of good without running for office.

You most certainly do (call him that for nothing). Why ever you would allude to Pol Pot when it comes to the man with the most conservative congressional record in 70 years is beyond me. First of all, you can't possibly expect to be taken seriously making such a claim, but it would seem to me that anybody who would attack a man with such a record - even sans moronic hyperbole - should have his own conservative credentials called into question. That becomes even more evident when most of those on the (purported) right who attack Ron Paul actually do so out of support for a Wilsonian foreign policy. Et tu, Brute?

As for him not being electable to an office higher than the one he currently holds; although a shame, it's not a claim without merit. And as such, it's true this CPAC poll means very little. Though I certainly can't think of anybody more suited for Sarah to appoint as Secretary of the Treasury after she wins the presidency. Which, God willing, she will.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the CPAC straw poll. Looking at the numbers, it seems pretty clear that social conservatives stayed away in droves this year, and most of the rank and file attendees were libertarian-leaning types who have no qualms about gay marriage being legalized and so on. That explains why Ron Paul and Gary Johnson did so well in the straw poll. As for Romney, he paid people and bused them in regardless (I've seen it personally when I was in Ames, Iowa for the 2007 straw poll. Very effective organization, the Romney backers)

Cain, Santorum, Thune (haha! schadenfreude!) and Huntsman's numbers are probably correct, as they're off the radar screens of likely GOP voters. But it's almost impossible to see Palin or Huckabee getting only 2% of the vote if it were a real-life primary ballot.

Christie has said he won't run, and Huckabee probably won't run (but he'll hold off as long as possible to keep the media spotlight on him). Former UN Ambassador John Bolton has put out feelers for a presidential run, and should have been included in this poll.

Keene's out at the American Conservative Union and it seems clear the new chairman wants to go in a different direction. Hopefully, next year CPAC will return to its roots and CPAC attendees and booths will be traditional conservatives. This year's conference was essentially meaningless. FreeRepublic was right to boycott.
