What does anyone/everyone think was the genesis of the "Decline" of the Republic in the Americas known as the "United States"?

I'll go first. I think that when at the Constitutional Convention Alexander Hamilton was allowed to affix his signature to the document without having the required quorum of 2 from the state the possible concept of a "Living Constitution" was born and the document was compromised in it's infancy. Alex was nothing but bad news for our country.

I’d say it was when the Bill of Rights was included as mere amendments instead of immutable laws.

The Civil War permanently inverted the relationship between the central government and the states.... and from then on, people considered that to be the normal way of things.

Losing the Vietnam war and letting the Commies control our schools. If we would have won the War, then the commies at the time would have been fully discredited, but they weren’t and were allowed to infiltrate our institutions, the Education establishment being the most crucial!

I believe the U.S. peaked in the 1950's and went downhill after that.

I don’t think it’s in decline. It’s just natural progression. Nothing stays the same forever.

Any document, any constitution, any form of government can ultimately be corrupted by it’s citizens.

I blame the 1960s. The parents of those kids indulged them, allowed them to become me first. Allowed them to trample the flag and ignore any sort of patriotism. Allowed a whole generation of American youth to openly embrace communism. This generation of American youth was taught it was ok to break the rules and do your own thing.

As those malformed young adults aged, they got their hands on the levers of power. How can you possibly expect such a useless bunch to actually respect what came before them, or revere the constitution?

The social unrest of the 1960s and the aftermath got us to this point.

“Godlessness.”

Yes, egghead atheists which naturally evolved into Communism.
The Western world had success because of Judeo-Christian values. You take that away and the society will always crumble into thuggery.

I’m actually pretty optimistic. Obama has done more for the conservative cause than anyone since Reagen. People are starting to see the mess that has been created with our politically correct, free spending society and there seems to be a return to more conservative days.

Unfortunately, I think that it may be too little, too late.

Ok, I’ll bite.

One of my favorite quotes of T. Austin-Sparks is: “Origin determines destiny.”

Perhaps the seeds of our nation’s fall are in its foundation: “the pursuit of happiness.”

Many of our earliest colonists came here because of their pursuit of God.

The pursuit of happiness is empty and vain at best, as happiness is not a goal, but a result. When it is a goal that is pursued, it always results in the opposite: misery.

Happiness is the result of a man or woman being at peace with God, himself, and others, and having a sense of self-worth from being a productive giver in this life.

Something to ponder.

When the communists began to infiltrate our government.

They figured out how to subvert and weaken from within. Contributing factors:

Woodrow Wilson and his ivy league, elitist world view
The creation of the federal reserve
The 17th amendment
Control of the media
Judicial activism i.e, ban on school prayer, abortion
The birth control pill (we then got the sexual revolution and subsequently, AIDS, herpes, gonorrhea, genital warts, et al)
Destruction of the family structure through divorce, welfare, homosexuality, etc.
Weakening of the education system through teachers’ unions, the Dept of Education, affirmative action, etc

...to name a few
