Illinois House Bill 148, " The Family and Personal protection Safety Act" (right to carry)

(Illinois) House Bill 148, " The Family and Personal protection Safety Act" (right to carry) is up for the 3rd Reading in the House.

It now has 38 co-sponsors and it appears that there are more than 71 committed votes. "71" is important because that is the super majority that is required to make the Bill veto proof and also prevents the City of Chicago from suing to eliminate the "no exemptions" clause which prevents home rule communities from passing an ordinance barring concealed carry.

All of us that are involved in pushing this through, need your help.

This is not the time to sit on the sidelines and say "it's never going to happen, why bother?"

The fact is we are close. very close.

If you have ever been at the scene of a great tragedy, car wreck, house fire, or maybe a tornado, there are always people who rush in and do what is necessary to help the victims until help arrives.

There are others who stand on the sidelines watching in stoic silence while still others wring their hands in anguish and ask why no one is doing anything.

That's the situation that we are in right now.

Each of you needs to decide who you are and what role you are going to take.

If you believe in the 2nd Amendment guaranteed right to keep and bear arms, now is the time to come to our aid.

We need you to stop standing on the sidelines and stop wishing for someone to do something.

Call your State Representative and State Senator and tell them that you want to them to co-sponsor House Bill 148 and vote in favor of it.

If you do not know who your Representative or Senator is, follow this link:

If so, then neighbor Wisconsin should be ashamed that they got beat out by IL.

Now that Justice Prosser is all but reconfirmed, I think you will see Gov Walker and the GOP legislature press strongly ahead with all kinds of needed reforms, including those dealing with concealed or open carry. This will have a big influence on what surrounding states do on the issues.

Hmmm. maybe good news!

As a Missourian, I have to ask, will it include reciprocity with other states? If yes, then maybe I’ll venture into Ill. and spend some of my money- if not, forget it. Tell your senators that.

I avoid states that do not include reciproctiy with MO as a matter of principle.

Best

I expect so.

The best place to keep track of goings-on vis a vis Illinois gun rights is illinoiscarry.com. The NRA's lobbyist in Springfield posts there frequently.

If it does not, it is still worth supporting. Many other states started without reciprocity and have it now. It is also possible that a court will rule that reciprocity is required under the Second Amendment, but only if you can legally carry in that mode in that state.

On a personal level. I’ve already solved the problem of concealed carry in Illinois - I’m moving to Missouri A.S.A.P.

Good luck in your endeavors.

"Many other states started without reciprocity and have it now."

Indeed. Looking at a "reciprocity map", I find that I can now drive from Washington state back to Louisiana and have legal CCW all the way if I have a Washington CCW. FYI, the route is: Idaho, Montana, S. Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and finally, Louisiana.

Chicago may be irrelevant on this, as Daley is history and the rest of the state is starting to flex some muscle. One can hope.
