Afghan rules of engagement force U.S. soldiers to free insurgents caught red-handed (Revolving door)
Washington Examiner ^ | April 11, 2011 | Sara A Carter

Posted on 04/12/2011 7:25:35 PM PDT by Zhang Fei

Several Taliban detainees who had been captured in February after being observed placing bombs in the culverts of roads used by civilians and military convoys near Kandahar were fed, given medical treatment, then released by American troops frustrated by a policy they say is forcing them to kick loose enemies who are trying to kill them.

Despite what American soldiers say was a mountain of evidence, which included a video of the men planting the bomb and chemical traces found on their hands, there was nothing the soldiers who had captured them could do but feed and care for them for 96 hours and then set them free.

If true, this is a nutty policy. What I'd like to know is the name of the person responsible for setting this policy.

If our troops can’t effectively take prisoners.... then don’t take prisoners.

Take photos of their bodies instead.

There is but one man with the title of Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States of America, and if he attempts to deflect responsibility, or claim no knowledge of this atrocity then he should not have that title.

to Mindbender 26: You are a mindreader, not bender. I was just going to write that, yes, there is something you can do when you catch the terrorists in the act, kill them. Out of uniform, belonging to a terrorist organization, committing acts of terrorism don’t give you Geneva Convention protect.

Shoot them on the spot or get them out of the country to someplace that is a perfect holding area for them, like Israel. There is plenty of room in the Negev Desert for them and if they escape, well, vultures have to eat, don’t they?

Our military command has no guts, no balls, and no sense, and that applies doubly to our “Coward in Chief”, and his military advisors.

My son served under Gen. Tommy Franks who wasn’t a wimp. When my son was fired upon, he fired back until there was silence and the enemy was dead.

Why are we putting up with this crap?

The Royal Navy has been forced into a similar policy off Somalia. They recently captured 17 pirates red-handed onboard a captured fishing vessel, but their new rules forced them to feed, clothe, and provide medical aide to the pirates before letting them loose. Yesterday's article

This stupidity happened under Bush as well, under the demonic spell of winning hearts and minds of the enemy, blah, blah, blah, of those who have no intention of embracing Truth. I guess Bush forgot about the dusting the sandals off and letting God judge these cretins Himself.

A position of weakness embraced by Democrats as well as Republicans. Those that suffer are the service men and women/their families, along with the tax paying citizens responsible for “nation building” in a land of the lost with no intentions of wanting to be “found”.

this sounds just like the fake drug war.

I heard from the Mexican media that the US has made a deal to permit Sinaloa shipments in return for info permitting the bust of the shipments of their competitors. So while we do get our busts, we’ve turned the US side of the market into a monopolgy of sorts, and that’s why those guys of our got shot down in Mexico 3 weeks back.
