Oh, Sweet Irony: FLOTUS Will Not Be Pleased
Townhall COM ^ | July23,2011 | Erika Johnsen

am truly, truly tickled with this one. This may be the most exquisitely beautiful illustration of irony I have ever witnessed in my lifetime.

President Obama, try as he might, just cannot improve upon our horribly sluggish economy and thinks that bringing down millionaires, billionaires, and big corporations with more taxes will provide the answer (he may want to reconsider those Keynesian economics at some point). First Lady Obama has been trying her darndest to eradicate America's childhood obesity epidemic, lecturing on healthy nutrition habits with her "Let's Move!" campaign. Husband and wife both have some grand ambitions, but often find themselves frustrated in the execution.

So, in this terribly faltering economy, what company is doing terribly well? Oh yes: the original all-American junk food corporation, McDonald's.

McDonald's Corp.'s (MCD) second-quarter net income rose 15%, as the burger chain says it continues to build momentum, despite the economic headwinds challenging the fast-food industry.

McDonald's expects 4% to 5% growth globally in July same-store sales, which includes sales at restaurants that have been open at least 13 months, even if temporarily closed during that time. The summer boost follows a 5.6% global same-store sales increase in the second quarter, led by strong results in June.

Shares of McDonald's reached an all-time high Friday, trading up 3.2% to $89.29, and were up 21% over the past year through Thursday's close.

McDonald's has consistently outperformed the industry during and since the recession.

This is so preposterously perfect, I can hardly stand it - and it hurts so good.

Four years ago took my grandsons to McD’s. I had a grilled chicken sandwich. Several hours later I ended up in the hospital with severe food poisoning. NEVER AGAIN. Also heard rumors that they don’t buy their beef in the U.S.

Anyone who thinks In and Out is a good hamburger has never had a good hamburger.

I can't for the life of me figure out what their attraction is.

You know it’s funny but McDonald’s is the chain where, around these parts, I can pretty much count on not getting sick afterwards. Chicken is all I order. I think the franchises must vary a lot.

Never have liked McD’s. Worked at Burger King in college; enjoyed the food then, and still do. But our hands down favorite for burgers these days is Five Guys. Oh. My.!

Their food is instant diarrhea for our family.

You must have passed a genetic bowel disease to your children. Or you make stuff up.

Mini-Mooch is the youngest daughter who inherited her sour mood from Moochie who got it from HER mom, Mooch Sr.

The older daughter doesn’t appear to be affected.

The truth is that America’s fast food industry does a fantastic job providing a wide variety of nutritious, healthy and tasty food at amazingly reasonable prices.

The food items may not all be like great-grandma used to make but the industry offers enough choices so that almost anyone can afford a healthy, well balanced meal. There is no doubt many people, especially kids, would have a much worse diet if they didn’t have access to fast food.

It isn’t McDonalds or Arbys job to dictate which customer should be allowed to buy a cheeseburger or a soft drink. People who make foolish choices do so on their own.

If the government continues to inject itself into the fast food industry they will destroy it as they have destroyed almost every other industry in the country.

If people like Michelle Obama aren’t stopped from their narrow minded meddling a $ .69 cent McDonald cheeseburger will end up costing $6.99 and it will take an hour and a half to get one. Then the industry will disappear.

Ultimately the meddling do-gooders will make things worse for the people they claim they are helping.

hey president peas prize... want to fix the economy? it’s real complicated...

set all corporate and income taxes at 15%

remove all write offs

insert tariffs from countries whose average income is lower then ours

get rid of pensions for union workers.

privatize social security into an investment account (like a schwab acct)

and build the wall on the border

done.

Interesting thought. Happened at one of the busier McD’s in Houston so I would think food turnover would be greater. I just eat at Chick-A-Filet now.

During this heat I can always find a McDonald’s so I can get my large Diet Coke for a buck. If I am feeling cheeky I get an apple and a cherry pie, 2 for a dollar.

God Bless America.
