Quake crack in Washington Monument ‘a sign from the Lord’? (Pat Robertson)
Seattle PI ^ | August 26th, 2011 | Joel Connolly

The Rev. Pat Robertson, who once said his prayers turned a hurricane away from Washington, D.C., feels quake damage to the Washington Monument may carry a message from “the Lord.”

The TV evangelist cited a four-foot crack in the Washington Monument, caused by Tuesday’s 5.8 earthquake, as a possible sign from the supernatural. He did not discuss greater damage inflicted on spires of the Washington Cathedral.

“Ladies and gentlemen I don’t want to get weird on this so please take it for what it’s worth,” the Rev. Pat, a former Republican presidential candidate, told his TV audience.

No problem, Pat.

1/2 the city of San Francisco, sliding terrifyingly into the Pacific Ocean (with the Castro District leading the way), now THAT would be a "sign from the Lord."

Thank you for providing balance. I’m amazed at how prideful FReepers can be in their condemnation of this man who has done a lot of good.

It is clear that you are not a cultural Christian, like most here seem to be. I appreciate your thoughtful comment.

Just learn the lesson, Jules. Just learn the lesson.

There is no stasis, statistically.

Jesus learned the lesson. And he ain’t comin’ back no mo’, no more. He hit the road. Jack. And he ain’t comin’ back no more.

Some people think he never sacrificed for us, so we gotta sacrifice for him.

Sure glad that WashMo didn’t fall on my little Christian head ... because that would have been a story about cracking ... let me tell you!

Washington DC gets hit by an earthquake and a hurricane, while the Obama administration is plotting to betray Israel in the U.N. on September 21.

It might not be a coincidence.

"What, exactly, do you find wrong with these words?"

They do not know or care what the actual words say, some people will take any opportunity to ridicule a prominent Christian.

"Sometimes a crack is just a crack. A supernatural action would probably not yield minor fractures. Just a guess."

“Agreed. PR has been seriously off base at times, but I don’t find this to be a stretch at all. God does intervene in the affairs of men. We have as a nation strayed from the principles upon which this republic was founded and there are serious issues that must be addressed. This weakening of foundational (Judeo-Christian) principles was apparent long before they showed up in the Washington Monument. From a biblical understanding, there is no such thing as chance. God in his grace does warn us.”

—Also agree. I’m surprised so many Freepers are so cavalier about this. Looking back at the Bible, the history of the Roman Empire - the parallels and growing number of strange coincidences are, at the very least, disturbing... and ominous.

It will play out as it is supposed to play out. We are but observers who can do no more than love our neighbors as ourselves.

Hey you. If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.

But if you're headed for astral-yes. YES. OMG. YES.

WE can’t fix anything.

Silly rabbididit. The fix is in.

Act of G_d? Or just the ground being torn asunder by the roots of the tree of liberty as it's being yanked from our soil? Founding fathers rolling over in unison?

Da bums gotta go!

If you seriously think the Christian God would hit the USA and spare the likes of other, less Christian nations ... then we worship a different deity.

I think the story of Job answers that question for you.

I think that Revelations 18 shows us the fate of the United States in the end times.

1 After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor. 2 With a mighty voice he shouted: “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’[a] She has become a dwelling for demons and a haunt for every impure spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal. 3 For all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.” 4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “‘Come out of her, my people,’[b] so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; 5 for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes. 6 Give back to her as she has given; pay her back double for what she has done. Pour her a double portion from her own cup. 7 Give her as much torment and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself. In her heart she boasts, ‘I sit enthroned as queen. I am not a widow;[c] I will never mourn.’ 8 Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her: death, mourning and famine. She will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her. 9 “When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her. 10 Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry: “‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon! In one hour your doom has come!’

The sin of the countries promoting abortion, of which the United States is one of the most sinful, will not escape His hand. Pray, now, for everyone.

Sin will be punished.

The earth will implode, if man is not stopped in this vile and disgusting evil act of slaughter of the defenseless little boys and girls.

So many people posting in this thread sound like, Deists themselves or agnostics or ahteists...a true reflection of this country. Please, turn to your Creator and seek forgiveness and accept Christ our Savior and much will be averted. Pray, and millions can be saved.

Great spiritual battles are immediately ahead, are you prepared? March forward in strength as the foretold prophesies of Revelations and Our Lady the Blessed Virgin our Queen and Daniel and the others unfold.

This site espouses conservatism and what exactly is being conserved if we denounce our Creator and His blessings on this nation's founding when we deny that He is angry at this country for kicking Him and His graces out.

“Laus Deo” - Praise Be To God, has been removed from the monument and has been removed from this country. Is it any wonder this monument and this country are fractured now?

This. Yes, I know PR can sound a bit nutty at times, but I don't see how the God of the Bible can just wink at rampant abortion, gay marriage, rampant moral decline, etc. He didn't hold Sodom and Gomorrah harmless.

Robertson went on to say: “It seems to me symbolic. When Jesus was crucified and when he died the curtain in the Temple was rent from top to bottom and there was a tear and it was extremely symbolic. Is this symbolic? You judge.”

Pat may be on to something - the Temple destroyed as a sign that Jesus was the Way - the Monument cracking as a sign that Obama and his supporters are not the way...

Either way, God has spoken -we can't change it, sign or no sign.

AnalogReigns wrote: “The Deist, absent God may have been popular amidst certain 18th Century intellectuals....even some of the Founding Fathers of America (Jefferson and Franklin come to mind). However, there is NO place for Deism among those who profess to be Christians...or even observant Jews.”

I don’t generally attack Pat Robertson’s charismatic, pentecostal or otherwise non-cessationist positions. Robertson believes that Bible-believing Christians should have a role in civil government, and on that we strongly agree. In the past, Robertson has done a lot of good, and on the points where I disagree with him, I can’t blame him for being consistent with his theology.

I can, however, say that accusations of Deism are inappropriate at best. The vast majority of orthodox Christians until the last century have not believed in continuing revelation. We can debate whether the charismatic movement is legitimate or not, but don’t accuse those who don’t agree with continuing revelation of being Deists. Not just Warfield and Hodge but also Luther, Calvin, and virtually all of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation would strongly reject that charge, as would the mainstream of Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Christianity.
