The Rev. Pat Robertson, who once said his prayers turned a hurricane away from Washington, D.C., feels quake damage to the Washington Monument may carry a message from the Lord.
The TV evangelist cited a four-foot crack in the Washington Monument, caused by Tuesdays 5.8 earthquake, as a possible sign from the supernatural. He did not discuss greater damage inflicted on spires of the Washington Cathedral.
Ladies and gentlemen I dont want to get weird on this so please take it for what its worth, the Rev. Pat, a former Republican presidential candidate, told his TV audience.

Or maybe it was an earthquake.
I really wish he would ride the shark he has jumped off into the sunset because he is fodder for anti-theists now.
And rightly so.
Very true...Robertson should retired a long time ago.
Put a sock in it Pat.
Actually my biggest concern is that the Laus Deo engraving at the cap will be quietly removed.
I am a Protestant and I cringe whenever this man opens his pie hole.
Pat Roberson is the Evangelical Joe Biden.
It’s just embarrassing now.
Same here.
I had a relative who would say stupid stuff like this all the time. If you broke your leg, God was mad at you. If you stubbed your toe, God was mad at you. I was in the room when she told a family member who had recently been diagnosed with cancer that God was mad at her. I said, “God must be MAD at us... He’s leaving you here”. Stupid people.
So who’s he blaming, the Masons or the Administration?
Hey, Pat, Earthquakes damage old things.
quack, quack, quack
The problem is that your relative wasn't a high profile Christian conservative who once ran for national political office. I can spout my opinion and it doesn't mean a thing. But if I were in a position to influence the masses, I'd have to be very careful about what I said. Ditto Robertson.
Just because a Quack says it....doesn’t mean it’s NOT true...
Bizarre, I think, that 2 of the major symbols of DC, the Washington Monument and the (yes, unofficial) National Cathedral are severely damaged, while everything else is more or less unscathed.
Is Deism—and it’s absent “god” who never communicates with (it’s/his) Creation—now the National Religion, even amidst Conservatives?
Just because Pat Robertson says it, makes something wrong?
Sounds pretty bigoted to me...
“... if I were in a position to influence the masses, I’d be very careful about what I said.”
You are absolutely right! I guess I was just venting... that type of talk drives me nuts. Sometimes bad things happen to GOOD people.
Ah, leave him alone. He’s just Babeling.
But it seems to me the Washington Monument is a symbol of Americas power. It has been the symbol of our great nation, we look at that monument and say this is one nation under God.
Now, theres a crack in it and its closed up. Is that a sign from the Lord? Is that something that has significance or is it just result of an earthquake? You judge, but I just want to bring that to your attention.
Robertson went on to say: It seems to me symbolic. When Jesus was crucified and when he died the curtain in the Temple was rent from top to bottom and there was a tear and it was extremely symbolic. Is this symbolic? You judge.
The Deist, absent God may have been popular amidst certain 18th Century intellectuals....even some of the Founding Fathers of America (Jefferson and Franklin come to mind). However, there is NO place for Deism among those who profess to be Christians...or even observant Jews.
I still cannot believe this clown won the Republican primary in the state of Washington.
He’s a towering intellect?
