He calls it innovative. Some scientists call it a big risk. In any case, the stem cell procedure that Gov. Rick Perry had last month was an unusual experiment to fix a common malady: a bad back.
Perry has access to the best possible care and advice. Yet he and his doctor chose a treatment beyond mainstream medicine: He had stem cells taken from fat in his own body, grown in a lab and then injected into his back and his bloodstream July 1 to fuse part of his spine.
The treatment carries potential risks ranging from blood clots to infection to cancer and might even run afoul of federal rules, doctors say. At least one patient died of a clot hours after an infusion of fat-derived stem cells outside the United States.

I call it NOYDB!
No rejection or autoimmune response from your own.
My back doctor has talked to me about this being a great future treatment.
LOL. I just read the entire article. Dr. Stanley Jones is my back doctor.
Oh my God! Is there anything that the MSM and Democrat/socialists won’t do to slime Perry in some manner?
Now, (spread the word) Perry might DIE in office from doing some “unauthorized” and approved treatment certified by the AMA, CDC, Health Service and surgeon General.
Might as well plant the seed of doubt now for it just might deter some voters lacking common sense.
The guy raising the alarm has an interest in ESC but not ASC.
I’d note that a million years is a long time to consider for a bet against medical research done by humans. This whole ESC thing is similar to CAGW scientific hysteria.
I loved Mark Steyn’s comment on the spine operation. He said scientists had achieved a miracle — they’d actually found a Republican candidate who had a spine.
Interesting. The same reporter posted the same story 10 days ago with a different title. Back then “Doctors question” - this week “Scientists question”. She must think she’s really got the big scoop. I wonder who will “question” it next week.

You're a piece of work. You make a drive by comment like that even though the article clearly states that the stem cells came from Perry's own body. Then when several FReepers point this out to you you just continue on your merry way as though you didn't say anything that needs either apology or concession.
Pathetic.
GMAFB.
As my mother always said, “shows to go ya”.
We here are mostly on the same plane of thought. IMO

Time to take my Avinza!

Some people can’t just take a ‘pain pill’ as 0 would want.
My back acts up really bad on occasions but I attribute that
and most pain that travels to RA.
See #33.
Activist “scientists”? Socialist academic sorts? Is this like all the “scientists” agreeing with man made global warming and it’s UN and carbon market solutions?
Because ethical, professional doctors don’t go around talking like this unless they are in on the patient’s records and treatment data. Even then, they respect the privacy and dignity of their patients.
