President Obama’s re-election campaign on Tuesday touted the end of the military policy “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” as one of the Obama administration’s “signature achievements.”
The ban on gays and lesbians serving openly in the military officially ended on Tuesday, following a vote to repeal in December. President Obama, who ran on the pledge to repeal in 2008, called it an “honor” to sign the repeal into law in July, setting into motion a 60-day waiting period.
In an email, Obama campaign manager Jim Messina called it both a “policy promise” and a “personal promise” kept by Obama to “the thousands of people who needed and deserved this change.”
Obama on Tuesday praised the end of the policy, which was enacted in 1993 under then-President Bill Clinton, and several Democratic members of the Senate Armed Services Committee hailed the date as “historic.”
“As of today, patriotic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love,” Obama said in a statement released by the White House early on Tuesday.
Obama’s campaign began touting the repeal as a major accomplishment prior to the official repeal date with campaign merchandise for sale on the re-election website. The campaign released a web video this week that includes stories of members of the military celebrating the repeal.
“It's a reminder that -- as broken as Washington is and as long as change can take -- people and organizations can do amazing things when they work together and never waver from the vision that unites them,” Messina wrote.
Trouble is that he was alienated from them already, so he'd view it as no loss.
“No matter how bad Washington is busted, we can bust it more!”
I hope he uses this in every campaign speech he makes.
Of course he is pleased. The left has been trying to destroy the Military for years.

You are right, but all illness and mental disorders are due to man’s fallen nature. That is a topic much too deep for this thread.
Just speaking in secular terms, homosexuality is an illness and those suffering from it should not be allowed to claim special rights for it, other than treatment. It should NOT be allowed to destroy one of our greatest traditions. Geo. Washington must be spinning in his grave.

Right you are. Homosexuality was a diagnosable mental illness until political correctness changed that scientific research in the 1970s. The same types of people who declassified homosexuals as abnormal are the ones pushing to declassify narcissistic personality disorder as a clinically diagnosable mental disorder. I hate when the assholes at the APA allow the political agenda of a few on the left to supersede scientific analysis and research.

As their enlistments end, I anticipate that the military will lose our best people.
With all of the leftist manipulation of our military, in a few years we will be unable to defeat Holland’s military.
