Obama Hails End of U.S. Military Restrictions on Gays ("Don't Ask, Don't Tell' ends today)

President Barack Obama on Tuesday hailed the end of the policy banning gays from serving openly in the armed forces, as the Pentagon vowed "zero tolerance" for harassment of homosexuals in the military.

"Today, the discriminatory law known as 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' is finally and formally repealed," Obama said in a statement. "As of today, patriotic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love."

The repeal went into effect on Tuesday, ushering in a new era in the armed forces. The law had allowed gay men and women to serve in the military only if they kept their sexual orientation a secret. They faced the threat of being kicked out of the military if they were open about their homosexuality.

Obama last December signed legislation to repeal the policy known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," which had been passed by Congress and signed into law in 1993 under then-President Bill Clinton.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta made it clear that the military would not tolerate mistreatment of gays in the ranks.

"This is an historic day for the Pentagon and for the nation," he said. "We have a zero tolerance with regards to harassment," Panetta told a Pentagon briefing.

Under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, more than 14,500 service members were thrown out of the military since it went into effect in 1993, according to the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. (See graphic r.reuters.com/vaj83s)

Gay rights groups for years denounced the law and called its end a important milestone in the fight against anti-homosexual discrimination. Some have compared its demise to the integration of the armed forces.

I’m sure if you asked my healthy red blooded son, he would much prefer sharing a room with a female Marine than with a homosexual Marine. (Of course, I wouldn’t want either!)

But seriously, why should any straight Marine be forced into a position where he would have to shower with or undress in front of some homosexual, who would probably see that as a big turn-on? Do the straight Marines lose all their rights to privacy and religious freedom because of this ruling?

And if it’s now OK to force people to room together despite this kind of sexual tension, what remaining rational do they have to keep males and females in separate barracks?

I just have a very sinking feeling. Note my new tagline. Destroying and polluting and weakening our military is the final freaking straw.

Moral revulsion and combat effectiveness aside, This will inevitably lead to wholesale contamination of the military blood supply. Thousands of legitimate and illegitimate service related aids cases will collapse the system ala clowardbpriven

Military constantly screens troops for HIV.

Some weeks or a month or so can go by before an HIV infected person tests positive.

Allowing mentally ill sex perverts into the military is evil, hateful, disgusting and worst of all, no Rs are saying a word about it.

I’ve been around 3 different services including Marines, and I have never heard anyone claim that the number one crime on base is homosexual rape. Never. Now, I don’t mean that it doesn’t happen. I just mean that hetero rape, murder, drugs, theft and assault are FAR more prevalent than homo rape.

Sending your son off to serve in the military is going to be a lot like sending him off to serve a prison sentence, with organized homosexual gangs preying on the weak and, where gays manage to attain rank in numbers in a unit, forcing those soldiers who don't accede to their sexual demands to do all the most dangerous jobs in war zones.

Exactly.

The military will quickly lose its special status as a respected institution in this country. Political commissar homosexuals will greatly endanger the citizenry in the event of a Posse Comitatus violation.

I would go so far as to say that we should start treating the current military as guilty until proven innocent of being in the control of political homosexuals in the very near future.

I guess I'm going to consider them a hostile occupying force...

You are right......Obama liberal fascism requires a completely ineffective military ultimately turned against our nation’s citizenry.....this is the beginning of the military occupation of America, at the hands of the left.. A gay controlled military culture will fire on American citizens without hesitation or remorse.

And if anyone reading this is incredulous, read this:

So how long until the 14,500 law suits start for back pay, benefits, reinstatement at previous rank start?

Right. They don't share the same values as the rest of us, and have an ultimately POLITICAL motivation for their actions.

Ernst Röhm and his gang were just such creatures.

You’d loathe my sister-in-law’s husband who is in the Army. I can’t stand the guy, but my wife made me go to lunch with them today. The scum knows my views and brought a picture of a guy from his unit in a obscene pose with his boyfriend “celebrating” the end of DADT.

They act like I’m the freak for being angry! It’s the faggots who are the disease infested freaks!! It’s so effing disgusting!!! I hate it!!!

Now that is all over it Mike! This all has been making me sick! My buds (not the warning orders) who went into Iraq desevre way better. This is a travesty. Gay marriage wrecked my loving partnership with the perfect girl. Now gays can act out in the military, and that’s likely the end of American Military superiority. Just watch.

They may invent something someday that makes the infantryman obsolete, but I can assure you it won't happen in our lifetimes or our children's lifetimes.

Their presence on the battlefield is already far reduced from what it was only a few years ago. They will always be there but in much more specialized roles and/or they will be mercenaries.

Calling these perverts in uniform “patriotic Americans” is an insult to real patriotic Americans. There’s nothing patriotic about turning America’s military into a cesspool
of sexual perversion which will lead to its destruction.

There have already been stories saying that repeal of DADT is not enough. The military must now recognize gay marriage and provide benefits for their partners.

People who are pro-fag are as sick as the mentally ill sex perverts they luv.

I am so disheartened today. Weakening the demoralizing the military and spitting in the face of all normal, moral and rational military members sickens me so much I literally feel sick to my stomach.
