“Both sides are wrong,” he said to the 300 gathered at group’s annual black-tie gala. “Those who say, ‘Kick everybody out’ – they’re wrong. Those who say, ‘Give amnesty to everyone’ – they’re wrong.

Pure BS. You can't be a little bit pregnant. Legalizing lawbreakers because they are "deeply imbeded in our culture," is pure sophistry. What exactly does "imbeded in our culture mean?" And why should that be the criterion for legalization? Gingrich is an amnesty supporter no matter how he tries to cover it up with his BS.

And this is EXACTLY one of the reasons why Newt is death for the conservatives in this country. The current law doesn’t mean a damned thing to him. His obviously superior academic intellect re: the challenges and futility of adhering to immigration laws as they exist now are just too damned much for the normal conservative American to ponder.

This whiz boy assessment from a country that beat back the world in WWII, built the Panama Canal, sent a man to the moon, and on and on and on....Bullshit, Newt!

"And we must recognize that some people who came here legally are deeply embedded in our culture.”.....

Huh???? "Came here legally????"

Please tell me that the word is a typo and he truly meant to say or perhaps did say, "illegally," or is Newt doing what he's done in the past, find out which way the moderate winds are blowing and pretend to be ahead of them.

Nope Newtie, people who came here illegally, speak only or mostly Spanish, have Mexican flags all over their cars, homes, cheer for Mexican soccer teams over American......and on and on, are not "deeply embedded in our culture."

Go back to hugging Pelosi and Hillary and pretend you've joined the "middle way."

Newt’s just trying to make sure he’s on the right side of the issue for his backers, so that when the candidate puts him on the ticket as VP (all the noise here made for this cheatin’ closet lefty has lately brought that idiot idea to the table again), he’ll have made his position clear thru Newt.

I’d never vote for a ticket that had that weasel on it, just as I would never vote for Giuliani. A man who will cheat on his wife, who he presumably knows well enough to swear before God he’ll love, honor, and cherish her, why would he not screw over voters and a Constitution he’s never met?

Those who propose a “middle path” always fail to answer one important question. Once they become legal, then they are able to bring over, legally, all their family members..

This is exactly why trusting Newt is suicide for conservatives.

Nancy/Couch anyone?

Looks like Newt still doesn't understand the question ~ we already know we can replace the entire population here quickly via immigration if we needed to do that.

It's that good a place to live.

On the other hand there are GAZILLIONS of people in this world who'd like to live here but they can't just step across a line out in the desert to do that.

Lyndon Johnson's regime recognized that and eliminated the old National Origins immigration laws. Simultaneously neither LBJ nor anyone else at the time proposed replacing them with a "90% of the places for Mexicans" system.

What Newt and people like him propose doing is eliminating the immigration laws and letting in no one but Mexicans.

Sorry Newt, it ain't gonna' happen. I want 10% of the numbers set aside so I and my associates can bring in graduate engineers and top end computer technicians and others from India and Pakistan.

We know we can clear the decks in China of fellows with PhDs if necessary.

No 10% setaside, no deal Newt! You'll just have to limp along with the OLD THIRD WAY, that is, enforce current laws vigorously and thoroughly.

That means sending the illegal entrants back to their own countries.

Sounds like Newt is bound and determined to sabotage the recent gains he's made with the voters. And no one says the above except a tiny number of extremists and, unfortunately, cowardly politicians who use it to avoid taking a sensible stand such as: enforce the border and enforce the law and allow gradual self-deportation.

I guess Newt just couldn't stand his success in the recent debates.

This country and THIS economy is past the point where ‘middle ground’ on ANY issue will fly.

No serious candidate can afford to be ignorant of this

". . . billed for the costs of tossing his tail back south of the border."

Yeah, and how is that going to work? LOL! I can just see enforcing that. /rolleyes

Anyone who believes it is even remotely feasible to round up and deport 20 million illegal aliens is smoking some pretty potent crack. The cost alone of what you suggest is would probably be greater than any burden illegals place on all of our social services combined.

The sad fact is that Newt is correct--what Texas is doing in bringing the children of illegals into the mainstream is the best path; educate them, get them onto the path of citizenship and make them a productive part of our society.

No doubt that we must first seal the borders against any further intrusion, but the only solution for those who are already here is the gradual acculturation of them into our society.

Makes me want to puke, but reality is rarely pleasant when one is faced with a problem of this magnitude. It would be much more fun to rant and rave about deporting them all and placing a Berlin Wall type border fence complete with machine gun nests to prevent more illegals from entering, but it is simply not plausible or possible.

Congress will never support the mass expulsion of tens of millions of illegal immigrants. None of the Presidential candidates will or has ever endorsed what you suggest. I simply cannot and will not be done.

The time has come to "make lemonade."

Yes, and when you reward something, you get more of it. We have a one-time amnesty in 1986. The proponents promised profusely dthere would never be another one. The USG estimated that 1 million would apply and the true number turned out to be 2.7 miullion. We are still getting legal immigrants from that amnesty thru chain migration and now we have an estimated 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in this country.

The article doesn’t day what his “middle path” is.

Anyone who is serious about illegal immigration needs to start their plan with building a complete east-to-west physical fence.

Stop the flow.

Then, anyone who is serious about illegal immigration needs to have a plan for anchor babies.

Stop the loopholes.

Then, anyone who is serious about illegal immigration needs to have a plan to ENFORCE existing hiring laws.

Stop the incentive to enter the country illegally.

Any talk of amnesty of any type is really a fourth-tier priority. It makes no sense to showcase a candidate’s policy on amnesty when the candidate is unwilling to consider how to stop illegal immigration from getting worse.

The immigration laws in this country, like the tax laws, are in need of a major overhaul. Enough with fiddling around the edges and adding layers upon flawed layers. Time to scrap it altogether and start fresh.

In explaining immigration laws in this country I've equated this country to being a membership warehouse store filled to the rafters with everything you could want. Unfortunately, at the front of the store there is a long line that seemingly goes on forever of people waiting to get their turn at the desk where they will have to fill out endless forms and pay huge fees. While those people wait in line at the front of the store they are looking out and seeing that the back of the store has no wall and people are coming and going as they please and taking what they want. There is definitely a problem at the back of the store that needs to be fixed first, but there is also a problem at the front of the store that also needs to be addressed. Personally, I would like to see a point system as used in some countries. Fluent in English? Points. Have a university degree? Points. Degree is in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics? Bonus points. Family? Points. Criminal history? Minus big points. Previous immigration violator? Minus big points. Total up the points and if meet the minimum points necessary to qualify then you can come apply to enter. Should be able to check online from anywhere in the world if you can emigrate.

Too Liberal ~ only 90% of the illegals come from Mexico. Actually, one way to deal with this is find a truly needy third world country in Africa where they still do "forced labor" ~ we FLY all the illegals we catch to that country and give them $1000 a head to make sure they stay there.

Wouldn't take much of that and I think our problem would disappear.

Newt Gingrich called for a middle path on immigration reform – implying a limited amnesty – as he made his presidential campaign pitch to the Republican-friendly Hispanic 100 on Thursday at the Newport Beach’s Balboa Bay Club.

Just more pandering by Newt who is a slimey bureaucrat and part of the ruling class. He is part of the problem that got us into this mess, not the solution.
