His business acumen, his conservative credentials and his plainspokenness drove his popularity up quickly.
But as with many politicians on both sides of the aisle, the more the public sees of him, the less appetizing he becomes. He has repeatedly revealed his lack of understanding of key issues.
CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked Cain if he could imagine as president giving in to an al-Qaida demand to free all of the hundreds of terrorist suspects at Guantanamo Bay in exchange for freeing one American soldier.
"I could see myself authorizing that kind of transfer, but what I would do is, I would make sure that I got all of the information, I got all of the input, considered all of the options," Cain replied. "And then the president has to be the president and make a judgment call. I could make that call if I had to."
Hours later, Cain denied that he had said what he said. Moderator Anderson Cooper asked him to explain his answer to Blitzer.
"Let me say this first, I would have a policy that we do not negotiate with terrorists," Cain said. Cooper pointed out that authorizing a transfer of Gitmo prisoners with al-Qaida is negotiating with terrorists.
"I don't recall him saying that it was al-Qaida related," Cain said.
So what's worse: His willingness to free all Gitmo detainees in a negotiation with al-Qaida, or his denial that he said what he had just said?
Cain's "I-didn't-say-that" routine continued on illegal immigration. First he said he would build an electrified fence all along the U.S.-Mexican border. He later said he was kidding. Then he doubled back and said "It might be electrified. I'm not walking away from that. I just don't want to offend anyone."

I don't have any issue with Cain's statements because there is a thread of consistency that you'd find in a plain-spoken, real human being.
The hyper "gotcha" mentality must be stopped. It's destructive to the republic. It prevents candidates from being genuine, rather than tightly scripted. It builds a wall between voters and those who would govern them.
More wishful thinking from the LSM. A weak attempt at a hatchet piece.
The only other place for the not-Mitt vote to go besides Cain, is Newt.
Exactly, the American People are Fickle at Best, all My life I am 61 years old, whenever people talked about Politics it was always that Politicians are Crooks the Government robs you Blind BLah Blah Blah, yet these were Democrats! Now look what they Defend! Look at what they are going to Send a Billion dollars to! These people would support Adolf Hitler if he was A Democrat. George Washington was right ,People will become more Loyal to their Party than to their Country
I love Herman Cain but he is Going to Have to get Deeper into The Issues to pull this Off.
Try another straw woolf.
Brewer is the McPain twin of AZ. If that’s the Brewer you are talking about, forget her now.
I don’t get Cain. I have a firmer grasp on the issues than he seems to...all those years on the radio should have cemented his views. I can only assume that he is adjusting his positions to appear more moderate and hasn’t settled on where he will land in every case. :(
Not a single primary voter has spoken yet in the ballot box or at the caucus meeting.
Do you do anything but post anti-Cain posts? Brian -is that you reincarnated? If so, you’re still the same dick you’ve always been.
Then again, Perry may never get above 3% anywhere except Texas and Cain may very well take Texas in the primary since current polling here indicates that. See how that works? If, maybe, shoulda, woulda, coulda....
I have studied all of the available details well and in my case, I'm convinced that I will be paying more. Why can't people just accept that I'm not a dummy and am capable of figuring out my own status and how it will be changed under 999?
Allow me to reiterate, I'm voting for Cain. Understanding the whole while that what may not be good for me personally, may be good for the country as a whole.
I'm a retiree and do not pay the so called "payroll" tax. I have sources (plural) of income, that have nothing to do with "payroll" or Social Security, I have two dependent children and by dependent children, I do not mean 26 year olds, living with me. Because of those dependents that I have gained in the past three years, I am currently already paying an effective rate at about 9% fed tax. 999 won't change that number.
I have considered every available aspect of 999 except one, which I consider ridiculous on its face and that is that consumer prices will come down, due to tax savings realized by manufacturers and retailers. It does not logically follow that all savings realized by them will be "passed on" to me as a consumer.
One more time, I'll note, Cain is far superior to any other "R" candidate running and he has my vote. Just don't try to blow smoke up my a$$ by telling me that his plan will be beneficial to everyone, I've studied it in detail and it does not help me, it will cost me more.
Journalists have already analyzed Cain more than they have the current President.
This is getting tiresome, I hope JR is charging these almost-certainly-professional Perrywinkles by the word.
Aw, come on! Jump on the Cain Train, baby! Nobody cares where it’s going. All you need to know is - “It’s freakin’ cool!” /s
We are not IGNORANT of their devices (well...at least most of us aren't. Some of the GOP are IDIOTS playing into the hands of the MSM and doing their work for them by posting their articles on FR).
I have been AMAZED this primary cycle at the ignorance of my GOP brethren. We are ripping each other apart so that Dims can run against the establishment RINO Romney...and we will sit home in records numbers...AGAIN...demoralied.
WAKE UP!
Romney: Never. Perry: too much like Romney & all other slick pols. Bachmann: inexperienced. The rest: irrelevant to me, no chance.
So, Cain's not perfect, but better than the others. And, he negates Obama’s Race/Class Card. I think he can beat Obama & make a good President.
Cain is not like Newt, who has had 20 years as a full-time pol to perfect every answer on every issue (and has done so very well). Instead, he is confronting these issues and thinking through them---which is really what I want someone to do. His conclusions are grounded in conservatism and practicality, not "hopey changey liberalism" or Romney-esque polling.
I'm with him.
