Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and Penn State alum Franco Harris blasted the school's Board of Trustees for its decision to fire Joe Paterno and defended Mike McQueary, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
"I feel that the board made a bad decision in letting Joe Paterno go," Harris told the Tribune-Review's Kevin Gorman. "I'm very disappointed in their decision. I thought they showed no courage, not to back someone who really needed it at the time. They were saying the football program under Joe was at fault.
"They really wouldn't give a reason. They're linking the football program to the scandal and, possibly, the cover-up. That's very disturbing to me.

McQueary was the only person in a position to defend the child by calling the police when the alleged rape happened. By the time he told Paterno, the victim was long gone, and you need a victim to prosecute a sex crime.
Others here have said Paterno could have kept Sandusky off campus. With what? He’d have had to give a reason and if he said, “I think he is a kiddie diddler,” well, he’d better be able to prove that in court unless he wants to get himself and Penn State sued for libel.
From what I read in the indictment, though, Sandusky would make a perfect UN Peacekeeper or Taliban member!
Franco has suffered too many blows to the head.
People keep saying Paterno should have called the police; he didn’t witness the act; he’s not the one who should have reported the incident to the police.

The buck stops with...who? The guy who claims to dedicate his life to the success of young men.
All of his testimony demonstrates he had no doubt Sandusky was caught analy raping a 10 year old boy. When he saw the slime buckets were not doing anything to stop the rapists, what should he have done, ethically?
I can’t believe how all you people could read peoples’ minds and know exactly how everyone reacted and their reasoning. Paterno reported the incident to his superiors; that is not hiding anything.

In addition to somebody having no idea what 'hearsay' is, let's traipse on over to 23 Pa. Cons. Stat. Section 6311, 'Persons Required to Report Suspected Child Abuse.'
The title of the Pennsylvania law that requires physicians, clergy, school teachers, school administrators (and a long list of other professionals) to report child abuse even uses "suspected' in its title.
Subsection (a) says that the entire statute applies "when the person has reasonable cause to suspect" child abuse.

Remember Duke Lacrosse and Mike Nifong, though? How about Al Sharpton and Tawana Brawley? Sharpton acted on hearsay evidence (from the actual purported victim) and bought himself a big fat defamation suit he lost. Remember the Amiraults and Grant Snowden?
All good reasons to be careful of acting on hearsay.

Who offered McQueary the QB Coach job? Was it in exchange for his silence?
It also seems that Joe Paterno is on the board of this so-called charity? (NAMBLA front group?)
What happens is this. Joe is Joe and he could get McQueary to do whatever he wanted. If he decided to go to the police to stop the pervert because his supervisors were sweeping the boy sex operation under the rug, McQueary would have been glad to go along with him. McQueary was in shock and looking to Joe for ethical leadership.
So were Andy Reid and Arnold Palmer. It was the honorary board.
Paterno should have handed the phone to McQueary....
McQueary should have stopped the rape by force if necessary. Mc Queary and all the rest should have been at the nearest police station dragging the sorry Sandusky with them. They knew and they did nothing. If they want jobs that don’t require moral backbone, have them get a job with the Food Stamp President and his collection of riffraff and pond scum.

No question Joe followed the law - protocol. He was not indicted. He did not lie to the Grand Jury trying to cover up what happened and what he knew.
The question is whether he had an ethical responsibility to act to rescue the abused kids when he saw the perv continuing to operate his sex abuse scheme. He did have an ethical responsiblity to put a stop to it by reporting him to the police and telling other key people (donors) to the charity that McQueary saw Sandusky anally raping a 10 year old boy on campus.
Let’s personalize this a little.
If your son were molested by this guy years after this situation occurred, you would not hold the the other people somewhat responsbile?
Now a little moral question, what would you fail to report for fear of a lawsuit or losing your job? Rape, murder, child rape?
