Democratic Senator from Missouri Claire McCaskill runs essentially even with two Republican challengers in the first Rasmussen Reports look at her reelection bid in 2012.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Missouri Likely Voters shows former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman with 47% support against McCaskills 45%.

McCaskill is running only even against second-tier opponents. It’s a good sign.
Good. Hope they send her home. Come on Missouri, wake up.
They've done it before.
To stop them would be racist.
Excellent.
Come election, it’ll be grave digger time.
Shovel ready jobs!!!
Only a toss up? With voting record and tax evasion, why isn’t she being crushed?
Thanks Clintonfatigued.
How in heaven’s name can McCaskill even be in the race???
The lady had 100+ limited partnerships that dabbled in the flipping of houses a couple of years ago when it all hit the fan. She skated.
Don’t you people even CARE any more?
Taking that bitch out will be as easy as taking Murkowski out.
Godspeed and Good Luck. She was the biggest greaser of zero’s skid from the Senate to the white hut.
Steelman probably should switch to the Lt Governor’s race, which doesn’t have any declared GOP candidates to succeed Peter Kinder. Todd Akin has the Senate nomination in the bag.
McCaskill will be booted out in the next election.
She was forced to show her cards after she hitched her wagon to Obama in the last election and the Show-Me folks have had enough.
I have written her on several occasions and she now has staffers attempting to engage her constituents unlike last year (to little to late).
We will send her packing like Ike Skelton.
Maybe so, but when Sarah Steelman ran for Gov in the 08 primaries, the local RNC headquarters didn’t like her and wouldn’t help - they told me she “doesn’t play well with others”. Which is the best reason to vote for her, far as I’m concerned. They preferred their namby-pamby little guy who played so well with others that he lost and we have a Dem governor - tho at least a Rep Lt. Gov. I hadn’t heard Kinder isn’t running again. Somebody better! I wonder if it’s because he’s as sick of the dirt as Matt Blunt was, which is why we lost Matt as Gov. He didn’t want to run again, either.
I’ll readily admit I’m not a fan of the Blunts. Daddy Roy was an execrable GOP House Whip and was decidedly undeserving of a promotion to the Senate. Son Matt left the state party in the lurch because he was too timid to face Poppin’ Jay Nixon, no profile in courage he. The nasty battle between Steelman and Kenny Hulshof only contributed to Nixon’s victory (unlike others, I had no particularly negative view of either, since it was Matt Blunt that needed to carry the ball... you don’t leave in the middle of the game).
As of now, Kinder is the only one of note who can run for Governor (however, from whispered rumors, I hear he will probably fare little better than Hulshof). We do have the new Auditor who knocked off McCaskill’s protege, but he’s too green to have a go. We should field strong downballot candidates for a future farm team for higher office. If Steelman runs for and wins the open Lt Governor race, she will likely be the odds-on choice for 2016 when Nixon will have to leave (presuming Kinder doesn’t dispatch him first).
I wasn’t fond of Daddy Roy, either, but I did like Matt a lot. Just wish he’d been strong when needed, as he had been early in the year. Hope Kinder will run, as I don’t think Steelman will ever get the support. I’d love it if she could.
Good to meet another Missourian.
Excellent sign. I hope Republicans redouble their efforts to send her packing in 2012.
I’m not a Missourian, I’m a Tennessean. I try to keep up with the politics of all our states. The Senate seat Roy Blunt occupies, however, my cousin (a few times removed) was the GOP nominee for back in 1932. Had the Depression not been blamed on the party, he’d have won the seat.
Some news I haven’t see a thread on.
Kinder (as you may know his campaign was going....badly with Nixon’s lead growing) has dropped out of the Guv race and is running for reelection as LT. A couple other GOP candidates had just recently got in the LT race, don’t know their plans now.
Businessman Dave Spence is the new GOP candidate for Governor. I know nothing about him but I think our odd’s of beating Nixon just went up.
I guess that how McCaskill fares against GOP frontrunner Todd Akin is behind Rasmussen’s paywall. I would guess that akin’s leading McCaskill by a similar margin as is Steelman.
