....Rick Perry says he would consider pulling the United States out of the U.N. altogether.
....One of the loudest U.N. critics among the candidates is Perry, the Texas governor who has recently slipped in the polls. "I think it's time for us to have a very serious discussion about defunding the United Nations," he declared in October.
Romney, the former Massachusettsgovernor, in 2007 characterized U.N. failures as "simply astonishing" but has been more measured during the current campaign.
U.N. supporters say that when the candidates bash the world organization, they are simply playing to the most conservative Republicans: the primary voters and caucus-goers needed early in the electoral contest.
"My sense is that if any of them were to be elected president, they would quickly realize that the U.N. serves American interests," said PeterYeo, vice president for publicpolicy of the U.N. Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports the world body's work.
"They would find a way to constructively work within the U.N. system," Yeo added.
Detractors say that the candidates are just being truthful.
"I wouldn't call it U.N. bashing; I'd call it U.N. realism," said Bolton, the former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. "I think the issue for the United States is what to do to make the U.N. more effective, and the answer to that has to lie in how it is funded."
....The U.S. assessment is the highest — 22 percent of the total U.N. operating budget. By comparison, China pays 3 percent.
In the 2010 budget year, the U.S. provided $7.7 billion to the U.N. for its regular budget, peacekeeping and other programs, up from $6.1 billion the previous year.
House Republicans recently introduced legislation to force the U.N. to adopt a voluntary funding system. The administration opposes it and it is unlikely to become law.

Rick Perry: Well, as Governor Perry-- would tweet back to her that-- absolutely. Every country would start at zero. Obviously, Israel is a special ally. And my bet is that we would be funding them-- at some substantial level. But it makes sense for everyone to come in at zero and make your case. As a matter of fact, we oughta try that-- doin' that with some of those agencies that I was tryin' to think the name of the other night.
Starting at zero, zero-based budgeting, and Newt will share with you, is we've gotta go there. And everyone has to come in and make your case. It's what the American people are doin'. There's somebody at home sittin' watchin' T.V. tonight, lookin' for a job. And they're havin' to budget. Why in the world would our federal government get a pass on sending our tax dollars to any country--

Why Perry has not kept his appeal, has puzzled me. I am one of the few who do care about having a solid plan to deal with the illegale problem from the Washington end, which is why I am a Cainiac and not a Perrywinkle. But I’m not typical of the American who has fallen out of love with Perry and who yet cares very little about the illegales one way or another.
This is a flat out, bald-faced lie.
Show me where he did that.

NEW YORK—Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry says President Barack Obama and his administration are responsible for policies that have endangered agents patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Texas governor made his remarks while picking up an award from the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation.
Perry said lack of funding and “bureaucratic bungling” in Washington have made the border less safe.
He singled out one program in particular, Operation Fast and Furious. The arms-trafficking probe run by the Justice Department allowed AK-47s and other weapons to leak into the black market.

Bolton is right on! As is Presidential candidate, Herman Cain. He said that the U. N. needs an "attitude adjustment." They are both correct.
The U. N. does have communist roots, and vile members; plus it favors "One World" government and would like to collect income taxes from Americans to empower itself. Democrats favor that U. N. position.
It sure ain’t “aww, that poor camel that just about is all the way in the tent, why shove it out.”
Is that Cain’s position?

“When we came into the nation in 1845, we were a republic, we were a stand-alone nation,” the governor can be heard saying. “And one of the deals was, we can leave anytime we want. So we’re kind of thinking about that again.”
It suggests secession, no question about it. Whether he's joking or wrong can be argued, but not the fact he ever mentioned it.

It’s surprising his opponents would try to make use of the comment? Doesn’t change the fact he said it. I’m not entirely sure it’s not a legitimate option under certain circumstances.
Whatever Cain thinks, it doesn’t seem to be that. Like a myriad of issues, if pressed he’ll say he’ll field it to a team of experts. That doesn’t mean he’ll waffle once he’s heard from the experts.
