Sarah Palin's announcement that she wouldn't run for president disappointed her legions of admirers — but it infuriated Roger Ailes. The Fox News chief wasn't angry about the decision itself. Rather, he was livid that Palin made the October 5 announcement on Mark Levin's conservative talk-radio program, robbing Fox News of an exclusive and a possible ratings bonanza. Fox was relegated to getting a follow-up interview with Palin on Greta Van Susteren's 10 p.m. show, after the news of Palin's decision had been drowned out by Steve Jobs's death. Ailes was so mad, he considered pulling her off the air entirely until her $1 million annual contract expires in 2013.
After the announcement, he called Fox's executive vice-president Bill Shine into a meeting. Shine is the network's principal point of contact with Palin. Ailes told him she had made a big mistake. "I paid her for two years to make this announcement on my network," Ailes pointedly told Shine. Sources described the episode on condition of anonymity, given the sensitivity of the relationships.
Palin is said to have made her announcement on Levin's show because she's been upset that Fox News has given a platform to Karl Rove, one of her principal critics. "She isn't happy with Karl," one Palin adviser told me. "From day one, he hasn't been very nice." Levin had become Palin's biggest booster in the conservative commentariat, and Palin is known for rewarding loyalists, and punishing her detractors.

I didn’t know she had such a grudge against (shut up) Karl. Up she goes another two notches in my opinion.
Good! The MSM is losing and FOX has been part of the MSM since Beck left.
That’d what I figured. Rove was leading the Republican charge to drive her out. He’s been against all or most tea party candidates from the beginning.
Strategic error for Sarah. She alienated her best allies, and put the damper on any future aspirations.
Sarah is toast...yesterday...forgotten.
She really is not too bright.
I can understand how Ailes would be ticked.
Maybe she wanted to announce her decision on a CONSERVATIVE show?
Suck it up, Roger. Sarah has played you like she ALWAYS plays the media.
If it wasn’t in her contract, she had no such obligation to Ailes who should’ve kept in mind that there are other presidential campaigns down the road.
Ailes pays her. He doesn’t own her.
A Palin adviser told me that she is planning to make an endorsement for a candidate in 2012. Palin, being Palin, is keeping it tightly held. "I have an idea of who it is," the adviser said, "but I'm not telling."
Deja vu all over again, only I'm not playing this time.
Roger Ailes and Fox are NOT Palins allies.
Ailes is smart..so, if this story is TRUE, and remember, tere are no sources on the record..we can expect a weekly show with Sarah and Rove..Crossfire redux...it would be a ratings smash...but what could we call it?
Very dumb and naive move by Gov. Palin.
He couldn’t take out his anger on her since she clearly is bringing eyeballs (if she was still in probationary period she would be GONE).
But memories in media are LONG. There will come a time where she stumbles and needs goodwill from Fox. And, across the board, it won’t be there.
You don’t throw a hissy-fit at people who are throwing a cool million a year at you.
And don’t rant about “principle.” The only principle here is you don’t screw your own company, even if you don’t 100% agree with it.
Dont bite the hand that feeds you, so to speak. They offered her a job with great pay and this is how she rewarded them. Cant blame anyone over there for being irked at not getting the scoop first. Personally, I was really surprised she didn’t wait till she was on Fox to announce her decision. Not that I expected her to say she was running, it took her so long to announce that by then it didn’t matter to many.
Do not misunderestimate Sarah - she is still a momma grizzly bear, don’t let the lipstick fool you.
Roger Ailes, even though he is in management, still has to be held off at arm’s-length, and Sarah is just protecting her turf.
If you don’t reassert your position from time to time, they will stop respecting you....
