It did show each of them up better, certainly in time to reply. I kinda like the give and take of the regular debates, you never know what’s going to happen!
Newt did a good wrap up. Don’t like Perry’s making the congress part-time. Michelle didn’t need to tell us she was a tax attorney. Paul was more of the same. Santorum wasn’t prepared at all and Mitt kissed ass.
Well, Romney is slick that way. But I totally don’t trust a word he says!
Perry is awkward but completely honest, I believe.
We want to win in November. Perry could embarrass the Republican party and we would lose.

I think everything you say it exactly right, and let me add an additional consideration:
Newt is not a whippersnapper, worried about his future career or the approval of others. He’s a grandfather, fighting for keeps, for his grandkids. This is his last stand, and I think Newt more than all the other candidates will automatically take the long view, and do what is difficult and right, not what is politically expedient.

None of the others really get that. They get parts of it, like blind men feeling the elephant (and of course, Ron Paul is actually fingering an elephant turd), but only Newt sees the whole picture, sees it with crystal clarity, and expresses what he sees in a few concise words.
