Newt expands South Carolina lead (Newt leads by 9%!)
PPP Polls ^ | January 20, 2012

Posted on 01/20/2012 7:37:05 PM PST by Utmost Certainty

Newt Gingrich heads into South Carolina election day as the clear front runner in the state: he's now polling at 37% to 28% for Mitt Romney, 16% for Rick Santorum, and 14% for Ron Paul.

Gingrich's lead has actually increased in the wake of his ex-wife's controversial interview with ABC. Although one night poll results should always be interpreted with caution, he led the final night of the field period by a 40-26 margin. One thing that continues to work to his advantage are the debates. 60% of primary voters report having watched the one last night, and Gingrich has a 46-23 lead with those folks.

The other reason his ex-wife's interview isn't causing him much trouble is that there's a lot of skepticism about it. Only 31% of voters say they think her accusations are true while 35% think they are false and 34% are unsure. 51% of voters say that they have 'no concerns' about what came out in the interview.

The skepticism of Republican voters toward the media is helping Gingrich as well. Just 14% of likely voters have a generally favorable opinion of the media, while 77% view it negatively. Gingrich's attacks on the media have clearly played well with the party base.

“Newt expands South Carolina lead (Newt leads by 9%!)”

Many at FOX are deeply saddened.

Gotta love it! Fox and ABC Thanks for your contribution to Newt Gingrich!

I'm getting a warm feeling that God is on our side - He is NOT going to let this great country be destroyed...

But we gotta keep fighting, gotta show we'll protect our country too - and his children.

Gotta help Newt against the Evil Triumvirate: The Socialists, MSM & Republican Establishment. He's threatened like never before. It's taken them decades to get so close to complete control. They know if we win this - they will all be swept into the dustbin of history - because Newt will NOT allow ONE Establishment 'Fox" in his hen-house.

He saw how that hampered Reagan (for example, he wasn't able to disband the Dept of Eduction, as he planned) - and GHW Bush and GW were Establishment.

Newt knows the pitfalls. And he has the backbone not to be manipulated.

The Triumvirate are coming at him like the Hounds of Baskerville.

We gotta have his back.

(Note: I favor Santorum)

That said, Mister Gingrich's play action offense and blitz defense are scooping Mister Romney's risk-averse offense and "prevent" defense.

(Another note: I'll vote for whichever GOPer wins the nomination, I'll provide hard work, and even including a little $$$(not enough to rival Soros, but a modest amt, nonetheless.)

That can’t be the first time they ever pulled a stunt like that, makes me wonder just what all they got away with before the internet age.

I don’t think Santorum will do either one anytime soon. He’s vindictive enough to endorse Romney when his money dries up and eventually has to drop out.

Yes he will get a bump but he still needs Santorum to exit and most of his 10% will go for Newt

"Years of Liberal gotcha questions"

NEWT has single handedly STOPPED THEM IN THEIR TRACKS, it was very couragous of him to take this approach, when advisor would have said no. He did it anyway and that makes him a leader.

Makes you wonder what is their next approach, tactic.

Personnal destruction, Racisms, etc.??? IT IS finished and we can thank NEWT for this.

Also makes you wonder who will volunteer to be the next Moderator to go up against Newt. What prized gladiator will the media sacrifice for that one? Going to be funny to watch.

My local radio talk show guy came on tonight and said, "Newt Gingrich is the Chuck Norris of debating!"

And that just made me LOL.

Maybe the voters are ready for a leader and not a golfer boy with wife who eats burgers while we are told to eat peas.

Unfortunately, I do not think this means it’s finished. I think they’re going to go after him even harder from here on out... no matter how petulant it makes them look. And anyone who can get in a glancing blow or cheap shot will strut around like he’s Mohammed Ali.

Newt 40 (McLame had 33)
Willard 29 (Huck had 30)
Nut Paul 13 (Fred had 15)
Santorum 11 (WR had 14)

And Chuck Norris has officially endorsed Newt.

I don’t think Rick has the money to compete in Fl. He will hopefully be out next week. If Newt pulls this out tomorrow the polls in Fla will also start to change. A few weeks ago Newt was Leading Mitt in the Fl polls. Then Iowa messed it up. That can change back very quickly.

I am NOT greater than God so I say Go Newt.

Glad you see it that way. Unfortunately we have a whole gaggle of little miniature self-appointed saints walking around here who think they are too good to vote for Newt. If obama squeaks one out next fall, they will have their reward.

Have to disagree. NO ONE since Reagan until Newt had the cojones to even think of challenging the almighty press.

They will see one ole geezer left over from the Reagan era in Newt and ramp up the pressure. Have to keep the younger generations of Republicans neutered.
