Remember when no one understood why ABC asked about contraception at the NH Republican debate?

Remember when George Stephanopoulos, at the New Hampshire Republican debate on January 7, brought up and harped on whether the candidates thought states could ban contraception?

Everyone, at least on our side of the aisle, shook their heads in disbelief as to why Stephanopoulos was bringing up the issue. There was no active controversy over contraception, it wasn’t in the news, and there were far more pressing political issues, yet what seemed like an eternity of debate time was devoted to the subject at the insistence of Stephanopoulos.

It was, shall we say, something out of left field.

When Romney said, it’s working just fine, leave it alone, everyone laughed.

Newt’s comeback was prophetic in hindsight:

Well what do you know, about a month later the Obama administration proposes administrative rules under Obamacare which would require free contraception be provided even by religious institutions which oppose contraception on religious grounds.

It’s almost as if Stephanopoulos got the memo first. Unless, of course, you believe in coincidences.

....as if there were ever any doubt about collusion between this corrupt administration and the equally corrupt mainstream media.

Thank you for posting this.

One caution: At the elite levels of the media, reporters, both Republican and Democrat, have social relations with people on both sides of the political fence in the White House and Congress. While George Stephanopoulos’ partisan affiliations lead to obvious and legitimate questions, it's just as possible that someone in the White House just happened to suggest that this would be a good question for him to focus on. Given the fact that Stephanopoulos’ family includes a very conservative nun and he has personal ties to religiously conservative people in the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions, he would be the logical person to whom the White House might have wanted to suggest this question.

Also, the contraception issue has been percolating in left-wing publications for some time as a criticism against Rick Santorum, and even on Free Republic. Initially I didn't understand that line of complaint — after all, what's wrong from a liberal perspective with saying women have a right to do what they want with their own bodies, including having lots of kids? — but logic doesn't always apply in politics.

Wow, Freepers are brilliant! Alla youz who figured this out!

Look, this can be twisted and used against Dems and the media.

Someone could make a YouTube ad. Santorum or even a PAC during the general. Show the dates superimposed and show clips first of Stepinlotsofit asking Romney, then of Obama going after the church. Show the apolitical Americans the collusion!!! “do you REALLY think this is a coincidence?.”. Don’t forget some clips of steffi jumping all over Clinton like a beagle in heat, helping Obama remember which religion he had, etc..

The important thing is that this ad must be NOT on establishment media networks but on YouTube and go viral.

And one of our best FRiends is ahead of the game, as usual.

Nah, he obviously listens to Rush or Hannity or both. Rush discussed this in depth during his Tuesday program, citing Dick Morris. Evidently Morris set forth this theory during his interview with Hannity on Monday night......

An Interesting Dick Morris Theory on Democrats and Contraception

IMHO, the First Amendment will trump this Obamacare mandate.

You have more faith than I do in that Supreme Court of ours- complete with two Obama picks. This is one time I'd love to be wrong.

This “contraception” thing isn’t going to last for the DNC. They pulled the trigger too early and jumped on with too much fervor.

It’s already a joke to every woman I know. Of course, I don’t know too many stupid lib women.

Frankly, government insistence that insurance pay for men’s Viagra is just as stupid and should be stopped. Heck, Medicare pays for penis pumps. No wonder we are going bankrupt.

I have a novel idea: get the government completely out of the healthcare/insurance business (stop mandating coverage) and we can buy from any company ala cart. I’m a male so why should I be forced to buy a policy that covers breast or cervix cancer? Why should a woman buy coverage for prostate cancer?

Why is my insurance company in my state forced to universally cover pre-natal care when I’m a man? As usual, once you peel back the onion, 90% of our “problems” are caused by government and then by their tweaking the programs to “make them work” or “fair”.

Stop government interference period!
