Conservatives turn on Roberts
Salon ^ | 6-28-12 | Alex Seitz-Wald

Posted on 06/28/2012 10:24:08 AM PDT by Mozilla

Conservative Chief John Roberts single-handedly saved Obamacare today, siding with the liberal bloc of the Supreme Court to uphold the law, even though more moderate Justice Anthony Kennedy led the dissent.

The steps of the Supreme Court this morning were packed with conservatives deeply disappointed by the ruling and hurt by the apparent betrayal of one of their own. ”I think a lot of Chief Justice Roberts. I think his whole history of jurisprudence is deserving of respect from this country — up to, and not necessarily including, this opinion today,” Rep. Steve King, a Republican from Iowa, told Salon. “If I issued an opinion, I think Chief Justice Roberts would want to read my full opinion before he criticized me, and I want to read his opinion, but really, I have a sick feeling in my stomach about what happened here today.”

--snip--

Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Tea Party Republican from Texas, told Salon of Roberts, “I’m sorry he’s become so cynical.” ”He expects the president of the United States to lie to him, and to lie to America when [Obama] said — and he had it said on his behalf repeatedly — this was not a tax. For Justice Roberts to say, of course it’s a tax, he makes very clearly that he believes the president is a liar and it’s a sad day for America,” Gohmert explained.

--snip--

“It’s a terrible day for the American people,” said Rep. Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota Republican who ran for president. “This was an activist court that rewrote the law to make it even more ineffectual, and even more expensive. So this is a sad day.”

“Chief Justice Roberts was the worst part of the Bush legacy,” Ben Shaprio, a conservative columnist and editor at Breitbart.com, said on Twitter.

Let's hope it is a Pyrrhic victory for the bad guys.

Clinton sent Elian to Castro. That may have made the difference in Bush beating Gore in Florida. Of course Bush gave us Roberts, but think of how bad anyone Gore would have put on the Court would have been.

It's too soon to despair of the Republic--Obama could be defeated in November--but I think Patrick Henry was on to something when he opposed the Constitution because it gave too much power to the federal government.

The Anti-Federalists: the forgotten heroes of American history.

I can’t help but think that Obama wanted this to be overturned by the SCOTUS. Then he’d have something to campaign against. Now he less than nothing. The regime has a rabbit in thier hat that they plan on using this November. They are NOT going to just let the WH get away from them.

“It is not his job to decide if a law is good or bad. That is upto voters-—>congress-—>president.

That is what elections are for.”

It wasn’t for him to decide “good” or “bad,” no. But unconstitutional or constitutional, yes. That’s what judicial review is for.

I respectfully Disagree.

He is Roger Taney. Who Ruled Dred Scott was a Non-Person and precipitated the Civil War.

John Roberts ruled you are a Tax Serf to the Federal Government. Paying for the privilege to pay taxes to the Federal Government.

True, but did you expect Roberts to vote with Ginsberg and Kagan?

Wow... sorry, there’s simply no defense of this.

The people get the government they deserve.

Unfortunately.

Four others voted for it as well. he’s not the only one ...

Really? What kind of nonsensical logic is that ... you are aware that it was Bush II that got his his (for life) Supreme Court gig? The other justices are all screaming liberals appointed by democ'rat presidents.

It is not his job to decide if a law is good or bad.

But it is his job to decide if a law is constitutional. Do you *really* believe the authors of the Constitution would approve of this decision? A decision that gives total, unchecked, unlimited power to the Federal Government to tax...anything!

Yeah, so much for all the Bush-bots who insisted that his SCOTUS appointments meant we had to vote for the lesser of evils (and forego any chance for third party or whatever).

Re: culling —
We’re also being sprayed like insects on almost a daily basis, all the NATO countries are. Insecticide in the form of aluminium, lead, and other poisons, to weaken and sicken us, make us to sick to resist, then give us the death pill before we can collect SS.
Yes, all the name of fake global warming.

You are right about lazy conservative voters who did not turn out in higher numbers for Cain/Newt. I did my share.

I am hoping we all turn out with enthusiasm to turn out Obama out of office in November 2012. Otherwise this country is gone to a 3rd world status by 2016.

Oh, by the way, remeber back when the Scott Brown election was supposed to decide something? What was it again...oh yeah, nothing. Because Congress zigged and zagged around its own rules and managed to pass Obamacare without anyone knowing how. Then there was the Republican majority that gave us Medicare, Part D and the Ted Kennedy education bill. Elections matter less than you think.

In dwelling on this for the past couple hours I'm wondering if Kennedy's vote was so uncertain that Roberts decided to vote with the libs so he could write the opinion instead of ending up as a dissenter and allowing the libs to fashion the opinion. In so doing he was able to make it perfectly clear that Obamacare was a tax, thus galvanizing the voting public and guaranteeing a GOP landslide in November and setting the legislation up for immediate repeal. Yes, I think he's that smart.

Roberts is a POS. Obama LIED about Obamacare NOT being a tax, then Roberts says okay as a TAX? WTF? Was this judicial activism or what? Rot in hell, Roberts.

Shocking that Kennedy's dissent was spot on, but has Satan taken control of America.. After all, he IS good at deception and boy were WE deceived.. And on amnesty.. And on 'Fast & Furious'.. My God, where are you? Have you turned on us? I fear so!

But if he hadn’t joined with them, it wouldn’t have passed. That’s what makes his act treacherous.

Well...Bamster can now say that the SCOTUS agrees with ObummerCare.

But, Mitt can say that he'll do what the MAJORITY OF AMERICAN'S want....to repeal the d@#m thing!!!

That, IMO, carries A LOT more weight!

I tend to agree with you that federal mandate is unconstitutional. However I am looking at the bigger picture...now we have much bigger reason and incentive and energy to vote against Obama and liberals in congress.

Obamacare should be removed the right way...at the ballot box.

Kicking Obama out will, unless some miracle intervenes in the GOP nomination, mean hold-nose-and-check-Mitt. Poor pickings, but Mitt has promised to nullify Obamacare with an EO. This would have to be a different, less liberal Mitt than the Mitt of Massachusetts. But it looks like a bid for survival requires no less of a risk.
