Economists are warning that the current drought in the Corn Belt is going to result in higher food prices...

But there is one thing the president can do to alleviate the effects of the drought: suspend the nation's ill-conceived ethanol program.

That program now burns up 40% of the U.S. corn crop...

And don’t forget the water projects, which were big big favorites of the late Barry Goldwater, that’s just undiluted socialism, and since 90% of the freshwater used by modern societies is used in agriculture, up yours, pay more for food, and import it from low wage countries. There’ s absolutely no reason the US should be self-sufficient in food, any more than it should be self-suffficient in fuel.

It is an evil program. What is astounding is that there more than a few Freepers who think the ethanol program is wonderful.

It's highly destructive on so man levels. There are too many RINOs who are 100% behind ethanol.

Unfortunately, the evil ethanol program will be with us for the foreseeable future.

Ethanol is another example of evil crony capitalism

Actually, there's no reasoning ability involved in the same tired old canned, "magical solution" responses regurged up regarding corn ethanol.

It's the Obamacare, stupid!

One-half gallon of oil in the form of pesticides per bushel of corn would cost $2 to $3 per bushel. If this were true -- and it clearly isn't -- it should be enough to illustrate to literally anyone that the price of petroleum is quite literally the ONLY thing driving corn prices. And this idiotic piece of agitprop -- from a hydrogen "energy" advocacy site -- also shows the guy in the encounter suit spraying chemical fertilizer, a sight that I've never been privileged to see, what with me *growing up on a farm*.

One of the best examples.

We're paying one way or the other - so it makes more sense to know exactly what we're paying.

and import it from low wage countries. There’s absolutely no reason the US should be self-sufficient in food, any more than it should be self-suffficient in fuel.

Should we be self-suffficient in everything? The argument for fuel self-suffficiency is to not finance those who finance terrorists and who might very well hold us hostage; can that argument be made for other major food producers?

I thought for a minute and you are right. It is one for the history books.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. Did you see the post on the fuel stabilizer that seems to help? I know ethanol will “separate” into fuel and water if you let it sit up awhile. Of course buying stabilizer adds to the cost of the fuel.
No one up your way has real gas? I make it a point of telling my guys at the service stations I use I appreciate their choice and to keep it up. We just got another station down here that has gotten rid of ethanol.

RE :”Harry Potter disapproves

I have become fond of the Potter movies oddly enough. Normally I cant stand movies with smart kid heroes but HP developed some characters I am sympathetic to; especially Harry who always tries to do the right thing, unusual in this day and age. I also like the stark contrast between the early movies and the later ones.

Please tell the Mrs reaganaut I wish her the best. She and Elsie were a blast on the LDS threads, even more fun was the Mrs on the Palinistas cult threads where I met her.

Yes, thanks, I did see the post about Stabil. I’ll give it a try. I live in Maine. We don’t have pure gas available here. I have approached several station owners I know personally and they all tell me pure gas is not available or permitted in Maine. The marine industry is in terror of the 15% formulation. It’s one thing to have a weed whacker die. It’s a completely different animal to lose an engine 12 miles out to sea.
