LAMBRO: Romney polls overtake Obama-President’s approval plummeting
The Washington Times ^ | August 16, 2012 | Donald Lambro

Posted on 08/16/2012 8:45:43 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Let’s get a few things straight about the presidential race between President Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. It’s not a dead heat anymore.

Everyone knew this was going to be a close race, but as of this week, Mr. Romney moved slightly ahead of President Obama. Not by much, maybe a couple of points, but he clearly has begun to move into the lead.

Heading into July, the race clearly was a tie, with the Gallup Poll showing each candidate at 46 percent in its head-to-head daily surveys. But something happened this week that appears to have changed the political equation.

Perhaps it was Mr. Romney’s choice of veteran Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, chairman of the powerful House Budget Committee. Or more evidence of the Obama economy’s persistent weakness and soaring gasoline prices. Or the tough TV ads Mr. Romney’s campaign has begun running after months of being punched around by an avalanche of negative ads in the battleground states.

Whatever the reason, the numbers began slowly but clearly to edge Mr. Romney’s way, and Mr. Obama’s numbers took a nose dive on his job-approval ratings.

The first indication that Mr. Obama’s shaky presidency was taking a tumble came Monday, when the Gallup Poll’s daily tracking survey showed his job-approval numbers plunging to 43 percent and his disapproval climbing to 50 percent.

Then, on Wednesday, Gallup’s candidate matchup suddenly was leaning in Mr. Romney’s direction, 47 percent to the president’s 45 percent. That’s where things stood heading into Friday.

While a number of factors are contributing to Mr. Obama’s slight decline and Mr. Romney’s rise in the national polls, there is no doubt the economy and jobs are the biggest factors driving this race...

Obama’s numbers will continue a steady downward trend, though I do suspect he’ll get a bumb from the convention, but it will come from Bill Clinton Nastalgia.. the night Clinton gives his speach, you will see more of a bounce than any time during Obama’s campaign, and it will quickly fade.

Obama is a dud, always has been, always will be.

Am sitting here in Las Vegas across the way is a huge Building about 30 to 40 stories tall. Didn,t see anybody around, no one on any of their balconies, Told my wife she said they were probably all at work! Looked again at night, no lights. Talked to a cabbie about a huge new building that was looking almost finished, and asked him what new hotel that was going to be. He said those were condos but they stopped building it. So it remains unfinished. The other building I mentioned had condos as well. Wow what a depressing site. Way to go Zero!

The Obama convention bump is a given even without Clinton. Romney will get one too (barring a floor fight, which is very unlikely at this point).

I’ve seen certain RDS-afflicted FReepers give it one helluva persistent attempt though... LOL!

Hey, have a little respect, for the office if not for the man. That 'bumb' has a name, and it's Joe Biden. :-)

Polls are like A**holes, everybody's got one and most of them stink...

Don't believe a single thing you see presented as fact in the MSM. You will be waaay ahead of the curve!

Do you think it’s possible that Newt be the WH Spokesman?

You mean WH Press Secretary? I think that would be a bit demeaning for a former Speaker of the House.

Stop this “troll boy” crap simply because you are suddenly shellshocked into reality. Read the columns by Buchanan at Human Events and Mona Charen of the National Review that explains why Obama has an in-built demographic advantage. With all the scandals and the state of the economy and the national deficit Obama should be in the 35%-40% range.

It's not shellshock. My bovine fecal detector just got spiked.

HamiltonJay has a good post within this thread, here.

Two factors left out of the pro-Bamster propaganda are
a) people not wanting to be called "raaaaaacist"
b) lowered turnout (a systematic error, rather than lack of enthusiasm *this* time around) among those few who really are staunch supporters for Teh One.

And of course there is the little matter of Obama already throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the GOP while they barely reply; and still the R-R team is slowly *increasing* their momentum.

Look at the 2010 elections and Scott Brown taking "Kennedy's Seat" ; and yet Obama-Pelosi *STILL* strongarmed through Obamacare, and Benedict Roberts still contorted all legal reasoning, in sophistry worthy of Blackmun in Roe v. Wade, to uphold it by any means necessary.

Now look at the number of Tea Partiers gaining upsets.

And then add a dash of Chick-Fil-A.

And note how few of Obaama's Chicago-Thug Personal Destruction Memes ever get even a mere foothold in the public mind.

This may be a GOP *landslide* -- and Romney will be savvy enough to distribute some credit to Ryan.

Cheers!

While I attempt to remain positive, and believe the MSM polls are rigged... it’s troubling that the populace is this in favor of Europeeon socialism. Have we lost our country, our spirit, our economy, our way of life?

I have worried that the Ras polls that show Romney ahead were ‘outliers’.

Gallup showing Romney ahead prove its not an outlier.

I dont trust the other polls, they are mostly garbage with bad samples and if media polls, deliberately so.

More can happen, and the media will pretend the economy is suddenly doing great... but you know what?
Romney was failing to gain traction because he wasnt using the obmaacare angle.
The “Obama stole $700 billion from medicare” is all about Obamacare. Obama cant defend it without digging the hole deeper.

As Romney brings this issue up, and others, he will gain traction vs Obama.

The problem is, Romney, whether you like him or not, is a freaking boy scout when viewed within the spectrum of politicians, and so is Ryan. So, for Romney’s many faults, Obama cannot paint this guy as an extremist,”

Obama spent a $100 million on horrible ads that accused Romney of being a vulture capitalist, felon, he called Romney a tax cheat and did the ‘he killed my wife’ ad.

So Obama’s out of ammo. He can keep doing that but its really more negative garbage that wont sell.

“Now the problem is the more outrageous the claims, the more people will be disgusted and refuse to even consider Obama”
I agree.

At first I misread “shaky presidency” as “stinky presidency.” Not sure which is a better description.

JMO -—

1. I think most polls are fundamentally flawed.
2. I think many polls are merely left wing propaganda designed to influence what voters will do, not to predict what voters will do.
3. I think Romney has been ahead for quite some time.
4. I think one of the few accuracies in the polls is that they show he is gaining, which I believe he is. He is now even further ahead.
5. I think the polling organizations will show a further shift toward Romney as we get closer to election day. This will be for 2 reasons. 1) because there will be a further shift toward Romney and 2) because they will need to save face and protect their reputation for accuracy before election day. After all, who would hire them again or believe them again if they are wildly off in their predictions?

"Valerie was 12 at the time. One doubts she has any real knowledge of the ‘68 convention."

But then there is the general truism that "If you remember the 60's -- you weren't there"

2008 was an anomaly. The squish moderates broke hard for the won. That isn’t going to happen this time, the squish is split down the middle.

It’s all going to boil down to who actually shows up.
