“Legitimate rape” became a Twitter trending topic in the U.S. this afternoon after liberal blog Talking Points Memo posted a video of Rep. Todd Akin claiming that victims of “legitimate rape” are unlikely to become pregnant.

Well, when you tell me that you’re sure I’ll just disparage you, it certainly seems like you jump to conclusions with little background information.
This guy could have given a much better answer than this one. It wasn’t necessary to imply that women who are pregnant as a result of rape are liars.
Your “theoretical” woman in your “theoretical” situation may be advertising that she is available, but real women who are raped aren’t “asking for it” because of something they are wearing. Regardless, I’m getting off topic discussing this scenario.
Back to the “legitimate” rape comment by the senator wannabe, it was a poor phrase to use for sure. After reading a few sources, it does appear that pregnancies occurring from rape are quite small....not necessarily for the reason he claimed....but it is a small number. I was surprised.
If the dumb ass actually said that....and was not misquoted..he's a total nut job.

That is an apt description ~ very good. My instincts here are to get a bad candidate off the list as soon as possible and put in someone without the problem that got the other one in trouble.

Well, I had a hard time believing anyone (apart from Biden) could have made such a dumb@ss statement in this day and age. But sadly, I went on to read some of the comments of freepers here who believe that real rape victims don’t get pregnant.
Apparently we can do away with police reports, judge and jury. Just wait 9 months to see if a baby pops out. If so, charge the alleged rape victim with filing a false police report. We would have to wait the full 9 months, since “female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” I’m feeling kind of nostalgic, maybe they can bring back “she deserved it for dressing that way*.”
I guess if people didn’t want to wait 9 months to be certain, maybe we could use some slightly modified tried and true tips from Salem. Tie the alleged rape victim’s legs and hands together and throw her in a lake. If she floats, then she wasn’t raped and can be charged with making a false accusation. If she drowns then she was “legitimately raped,” and her honor can be restored.
At no time should there any investigation into the alleged rape suspect, because these new methodologies are fail proof.

*After writing this, but before posting, I went back to read the comments posted in the interim, and “she asked for it” has now been reinstated as a legitimate reason for rape. (Not to be confused with a legitimate rape).
