All signs point to a Romney victory except one (a very big one)
Yahoo News - The Signal ^ | August 23, 2012 | David Rothschild

When you squint your eyes and look only at the broad historical trends at play in this presidential election, all signs point to a victory for Mitt Romney in November.

Back in February, the Signal's first draft of its elections model, which relied only on historical data, predicted that Obama would win the election with 303 electoral votes. This model relies heavily on economic indicators and was published before the dismal second quarter economic figures. If you apply that same model through June, Romney wins with 290 electoral votes to Obama's 248.

In 1960, Texas and Illinois had highly suspicious results and probable cause to believe that there was massive voter fraud. But Nixon refused to demand a recount.

Nixon wanted a recount, but Dwight Eisenhower called him on the carpet and told him to shut up, the country couldn't take the scandal.

Joker in the deck: Ike never liked Nixon and didn't want him in the White House under any circumstances, so his argument was specious at best.

So Nixon knuckled under, and one stolen election, one Johnson dictatorship, and two dead Kennedys and a dead MLK later, a (justifiably) more paranoid Nixon was sworn in anyway.

Conclusion: Nixon should have stood up for himself and fought it out anyway. He was a square shooter in '60, less so in 1969, by which time he was more cynical and surrounded by cynical admen (J. Walter Thompson execs Haldeman and Ehrlichmann, self-promoting pompous hump Henry Kissinger).

No, they can’t reschedule due to the money already being spent for Tampa. As I said the mayor and Republican chairman’s convention person, have a contingency plan but they won’t say what it is. They would have to move the meeting place to a building that won’t get water. Now, there will be 50,000 people and the news groups will already be set up in the convention center.

I just saw the convention center where a weather channel guy was standing and the water is right there; give that a good shove and it’s in the building. Water is pretty, but it is going to go wherever it can.

They have just added the possibility this sucker can come to my house in Texas. Son of a gun!

Either that or you’d see a string of political prosecutions until ex-presidents chose exile or we finally got a president-for-life like some banana republic (which we are slowly becoming in so many other ways).

Nothing points to a Romney victory.

Half the country believes everything the MSM feeds them. Half the country thinks that the economy is doing just great. Half the country thinks that Romney will “take away women’s rights”.

Either Romney isn’t fighting back, or the media just isn’t airing his fighting back remarks. Same end result.

“Hope you stay safe in Texas!”

I can shut my door and live for a year and need nothing, and am totally prepared to kill zombies trying to get in my house. If you come across zombies, hollow point bullets in the brain will stop them or you can lop off their heads with a machete.

"For those who don’t click the link, the conclusion of the article is that Obama will still win because Obama is more likeable than Romney based on their favorable/unfavorable numbers.

That sounds to me like grasping for a reason to still support the king. I think Romney doesn’t have to be more liked to be elected."

Interesting. Likability is a wash.

Carter wasn't unlikable; Reagan was merely more likable. LBJ was unlikable; Goldwater more unlikable.

The Incumbent Rule merely posits an Acceptable Challenger, not a likable one.

O will do ANYYYYYYYTHING he needs to win. He will flaunt illegal votes and if challenged, pull the AG will look into it.

Unless Romney wins by a large electoral margin and 0 is overwhelmed, we lose.

Sorry, but a blanket exemption from felony prosecution for numerous crimes committed in office is not a perquisite of the presidency.

Maybe if more people were prosecuted, we'd be less like a banana republic. Policing up the slack actors and corner-cutters is precisely how a society lifts itself up above the banana-pickers.

Multiply that by several hundred people doing the same thing and you understand why there were voter irregularities in the Chicago area.

Multiply that by Bobby Kennedy's refusal to back off the Mob after Sam "Momo" Giancana's gargoyles made his brother president, and maybe you'll understand why two Kennedys got their brains blown out.

That's one theory, anyway. (There are also the Khrushchev and Castro theories.)

Why am I getting visions of Shep Smith reporting that the Republican delegates are trapped in the convention center and have resorted to cannibalism?

My close friend is flying to Tampa this morning. She won’t be among those “practicing” cannibalism since I gave her orders what survival food to pack, plus a flashlight. She will be okay if she stays away from the masses of starving, thirsting, Republicans trapped with Shep. Now, if they eat Shep, it won’t be much of a loss.

“Who planned to have a convention in FL at the peak of Hurricane season.,,BIDEN??”

It was someone who has never been through a hurricane. I said earlier in this thread, I stay ready for a hurricane from June through October. The worst month is September and we are very close to September. Then I saw Isaac may turn left after Tampa and come to my house in Texas so now I have to watch Isaac’s path. Rats.
