It will not be necessary to adduce arguments to conservatives on these threads that America was on the brink of the precipice and liable to cascade over into the void of debt. We must either radically change course or surrender this great experiment in liberty to the statists led by Barack Obama. The odds that Obama could be stopped seemed to be lengthening as the Romney campaign was running out of time and out of geography.
I believe that as at 9:29 PM Eastern standard Time America was hurtling toward that void. An hour and a half later it might just have happened that Romney managed to reverse the arc of this election and opened for himself a realistic chance to win.
An empty suit is like a soufflé, when the air goes out the whole thing collapses. Obama is the classic empty suit who has been propelled since infancy through the best schools (from the most exclusive prep school in Hawaii to Occidental, Columbia, and Harvard Law), bestowed with great honors (president of the Law Review, Nobel Peace Prize) and into posts (instructor at University of Chicago Law School, Illinois State Senator, United States Senator, President of the United States of America) for which he was qualified only by virtue of his race and his radical ideology. The whole contrivance imploded last night as the air went out of Obama's campaign in one great rancid and embarrassingly public fart.
I expect to see intensity among Republicans increase and intensity among Democrats decrease. I even expect to see a measurable if limited fall off in support by African-Americans for Barack Obama.
I expect to see increased donations to Romney and to the Republican cause and a decrease in donations to Obama and to the Democrat cause.
I expect to see improvement in Romney's poll numbers nationwide and in the swing states of more than the traditional one and 1/2 to 2% accruing to a challenger who wins the first debate.
I do not expect it, but I would not be surprised to see a few of the mainstream media deciding it is not too late to save their reputations and restore their integrity.
I expect to see a much more aggressive Obama in the next debate but I expect that will reveal a very unseemly personality who will not contrive to be effective but only petty and he will not restore his image from tonight's debacle.
I expect Paul Ryan will be able to cope with Joe Biden whom I expect to be much more aggressive than he otherwise would have been, but it will not avail.
I expect to see a more robust and aggressive line of attack assumed by Romney's surrogates in the immediate future. I expect to see an aggressive congressional investigation into Benghazi, for example. I expect to see breaks in the ranks among Democrats over this and other issues in the wake of emergence of whistleblowers and the need by careerists to save themselves. I expect to hear demands that Romney make specific his plans for the economy no more.
In short, I expect to see the arc of the campaign changed toward Romney's favor. I have no idea who will win this election, that is still too close to call. Obama still has the levers of the presidency and he is fully capable of triggering an October surprise and he will have plenty of cover to do so in the flaming middle east. An October surprise is an option which has concerned me since my last vanity in March: Never mind the Ides of March, beware the Surprises of October
The Rino did what he had to do last night. He now has a chance to win this election but only if he does more of the same from now until the last ballot is cast. As Robert E Lee replied when asked if the South would win the Civil War, "we will win if it be God's will and every man does his whole duty."
Romney did his part, now we must do ours, it might still not be enough.
“But I sense a growing backlash against the radical libs is coming”
That has been growing for years as people looking for jobs (real jobs) have instead been treated to this dope focusing on “gay marriage” and getting more dues-paying teachers hired; the desperate economic situations of Americans (which gave Obama his job to begin with) will be the reason he loses it.
Until 2 months ago Obama gave every sign he couldn’t care less about the American people (except black people); he will pay a steep price for that.
Well said, sir! Well said, indeed (as always).
I just want to remind people that one way to let the candidate know that you approve of a given action is to kick some $$$ his way. I just sent Romney a few bucks, to let him know that I’m VERY pleased with his performance tonight ... and also because a sudden bump in donations will be reported as news, and interpreted (correctly) as increased support for Romney. And that always looks good. People like to bet on a winning pony, not the one with an uncertain future.
“We should all just assume that for the next two debates, the fix is in because the media will not allow Obama to look this bad again.”
You’re absolutely right; this can’t happen again.
Good analysis, nb.
All I saw from the President last night was the audacity of a dope.
I hope you are right. The test will be today and tomorrow. The Obama campaign and the MSM have had all night to work out their responses, and the spin war will begin. The press will now try to dominate the perception game and reverse the outcome. Time will tell.
The pompous ass MSM, along with Obozo, will sink like the Titanic.
I think many Americans now see the MSM for what it is.
If those in the MSM have half a brain, they will abandon the sinking SS Obozo, or go down with it.
America is not yet ready for Marxist ideology.
U.S.: F-35 Stealth Fighters To Be Deployed To Okinawa
October 4, 2012 | 0514 GMT
U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said Oct. 3 that the Pentagon plans to deploy F-35 stealth fighters to the Air Forces’ Kadena base in Japan's Okinawa Prefecture, Kyodo reported. Carter said F-22s have already been deployed to Kadena. He did not reveal such details as the timing and the number of fighters to be deployed.
There is one concern: many FReepers have stated that they would never vote for Romney “No how, no way”. They reluctanly conceded they would only vote for him as an anti-Obama vote.
I’m afraid that if the polls show Romney with a huge margin conservatives might stay home on ‘principle’. Can’t do that - Romney needs every vote to boot the Won from office.
JMHO
Absolutely this is what we will see.
Blacks were embarrassed by Obama prior to this debate, now they are embarrassed FOR Obama, and they will want him off the stage. They will stay home in large numbers on election day. I see a landslide coming.
What we saw last night was more than the defeat of a politician in a debate. What we saw was a reasoned thrashing of liberlism itself, at least the virulent strain it has recently become.
The media itself may have suffered a lethal blow last night, as the protective cover the media had placed around Obama spoiled him, weakened him, and contributes further to their waning credibility and relevance.
Actually, there are highschool kids who could have done the job, probably better since they pick up on the numbers parts with ease.
The fundamental problem is there's NO THERE "THERE" ~ Obama isn't just an empty suit ~ he takes showers and is articulate in front of a teleprompter.
Too many Republican "money men" who pay too little attention to what the President himself is like or what he does imagined that somehow Obama was 12 ft high, had the intellect of an Einstein, and was so totally beloved by most of the population the love drops would ooze off his forehead into the holy scarf given to him personally by the Pope, the Dalai Lama, Alexander Putin and the chief rabbi in Jerusalem itself.
They were all wrong ~ any bond salesman could easily hand Obama his head and that's what you saw. Romney knows a few debate tricks, and a few marketing tricks, and a few ways to get the family off his back, and he used them and Obama crumpled like a wet paper bag in a hurricane.
That'd happened up against Michelle Bachmann, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, me, lazmataz, Jim Rob, Congressman Billybob (passed on lo these many months he could have still laid to on this guy), and any of several hundred ~ maybe thousand ~ Freepers with more than a month's experience!
Don't get your hopes up with Romney though ~ he's still a RINO and doesn't have any real skin in the real game!
He is untested and from this perspective doesn't look all that different from Obama.
Well put. Last night was all we could have hoped to see and hear. It was very clear that God heard FReeper prayers.
Romney did very well. Even Democrats are conceding that fact. “The Divine One” was revealed as a false God!
“Don’t get your hopes up with Romney though ~ he’s still a RINO and doesn’t have any real skin in the real game!”
Just what we need, a Debby Downer.
I am going to watch jsut to see Ryan mop up the floor with Gaff-O-Matic.
Triumphal Roman Emperors and Generals may have had a slave on board whispering in their ear... about their mortality ~
I was traveling during the debate but picked up the Twitter thread at the e ginning and it was clear this was a drubbing of the highest order, so you're right about hat.
I read this on some liberal rag online:
“When an unexpected noise went off behind him, Mr. Obama wheeled around to look as if to ask, Time to go?”
I recall, vividly, GWB looking at his watch in 1992. Of course, the media savaged him for it. But it WAS a telling moment, and deep down inside, I knew it as did anyone who was honest. It was clear that Bush was going to lose and Clinton was going to win...and Perot was going to help Clinton get there. It was clear to anyone who paid attention and was able to accept the bitter truth.
I am thinking that today, many a liberal is feeling like I did in 1992. I sure hope so anyway.
You’d almost think that Romney earned his Harvard law degree, and that obama’s was sort of an affirmative action thing going on.....
Dear Nathan Bedford I think that your analysis is spot on except for your use of the term RINO.
The Republican Party was founded in Ripon, Wisconsin on the ruins of and by a group of Horace Greeley promoted Fourierian socialists.
This communitarian group had been known as the Wisconsin Phalanx. This is disappointing because you obviously have a great working knowledge of American history. But regurgitating the Leftist propaganda that we have been fed by Progressive (Transcendentalist) Leftist professors with a slightly Conservative spin actually does a great disservice to our Framers. Many of whom had plans for Gradual Emancipation. Political Correctness arose from the attempt to cover up the failure of immediate manumission.
The actual truth of the founding of the Republican Party can be found at the Ripon, Wisconsins Chamber of Commerces website:

I would also suggest your taking a look at John Noyes, The History of American Socialisms free at Google books:

I love your nom de plume.
My G-Great Grandfather employed another of this countrys greatest military minds Stonewall Jackson.
Col. Smith also hung my nom de plume. The tragedy was that (he) they stopped at one.
Many more should have been hung for treason and misprision of treason
.

Shubel
If Rasmussen has Romney behind in the swing states and since Romney had to fill an inside straight among the swing states in order to get to 270, then the odds were lengthening as it appeared that more of the swing states were falling away and out of reach.
I had almost completely discounted all the other polls for over counting Democrats except to use them as trend lines.
