Just horrific news out of Kansas City this morning.

According to multiple reports, Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, and then drove to the team’s facility and killed himself.

The team confirmed the incident in a statement.

“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”

The 25-year-old Belcher, who started 10 games this season, reportedly fired the first gunshots around 8 a.m., and then drove to the facility a short time later. Making matters worse, Belcher and his girlfriend had a baby less than three months ago.

Several Chiefs coaches confronted Belcher, urging him not to take his own life, police say.

Police: #Chiefs player, 25, was met by coaches in the parking lot of the practice facility and then took his own life.

Head coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli supposedly witnessed the suicide.

There was some speculation that team officials are pushing for the NFL to postpone Sunday’s game between the Chiefs and Panthers at Arrowhead Stadium.

The league, unfortunately, isn’t listening.

One of the reasons I don't pay much attention to sports anymore...too many reprobates. Way too many.

I wonder if we will ever be privy to the history and details of this POS leading up to his actions. You can be sure this dirtbag had shown threatening signs to the female victim.

As a survivor and executioner of this kind of nutjob, there is very little the “law” will do until they act out their sickness.

Prayers for everyone involved except for the filth himself.

All sorts of things can make a person snap. Maybe his ‘girlfriend’ was badgering him with something like getting married to give his son a traditional family.

This world is ruled by the spirit world in alot of ways. I believe in a “spirit of suicide” and “spirit of murder” just as much as a “spirit of fear,” etc.

I’ve encountered this spirit of suicide a few times in the last year. Unless you get what I’m talking about, you can’t imagine how strong it is.

Being a POS person made him do it. No brains,no class, and no sense of responsibility are a bad mix.

I don't know this player, but its clear from what he did - He likely led a very confused, unhappy, and violent life - but it is also clear that by killing himself, he also had deep sorrow, regret and sadness. At some level, he realized he was on the wrong path, but didn't know how to resolve it.

God has put the seeds of redemption within all men's souls, but pride, ignorance and the devil are strong enemies.

Do not overlook that the murderer has a 3 month old baby that is now an orphan

Maybe he just found out the baby wasn’t his.

Describe it to me. Seriously, I’m dealing with a coworker who has had an apparently terminal diagnosis and I’m concerned she’s going to kill herself. The hopelessness in her eyes is like the pits of hell. She’s very distraught about her daughter but emotionally flat about most everything else. Except offers to pray for her. She becomes irate. I had believed her to be Christian. Is she in shock? I’ve been acquainted with a couple of people over the years who killed themselves. They just went and did it, leaving everyone to wonder why, wracking their brains for what they’d failed to recognize.

Yes, true, it could be entirely organic. Like the Texas Tower sniper Charles Whitman. If I have the history correct, he went from normal to incredibly disturbed as a tumor was growing inside his skull.

Just wait until (not when) the power goes out, people are hungry, and all of the “meds” have run out.

A lot of people are only maintaining a semblance of normalcy due to the wonders of modern chemistry.

A lot of people will totally “act out” in insane ways when they suddenly have no food, no power, no fuel for their car, no job to go to, and no anti-psychotic meds to hold them together.

It will get seriously ugly out there, when millions of folks “go off their meds” at roughly the same time.

How utterly tragic on so many levels. Incomprehensible.

What a beautiful little baby.

The word is he thanked the both of them, then shot himself. Both used to work for NE Patriots and Crennel used to coach the Browns.

"The league, unfortunately, isn’t listening [about a postponement of the game]."

They will have to. The entire team facility is now a crime scene, and though it's probably going to be a prefunctory investigation, given the witnesses, there will nonetheless be some sort of investigation. That will take at least a day, and completely disrupt preparations - never mind the emotional aspects.

The NFL will have to postpone - perhaps until Monday or Tuesday at least. To do otherwise would be... well, like the NFL.

Lighten up Francis.

(SARC) is short for (SARCASM). Look it up. Perhaps your neuropathologist employer can help with that.
