Dick Armey Blasts Losing GOP: They Said “Stupid Things”

The Republican Party and stupid statements by some candidates are to blame for GOP losses in last month’s congressional elections, the former leader of a tea party group said Monday.

Dick Armey, who until recently led the conservative group FreedomWorks, said some GOP candidates said “stupid things” that party leaders should have taught them to avoid saying. He said Republicans had a lot of candidates who did “dumb things” during their campaigns.

Armey, a former Republican House majority leader from Texas, did not specifically mention controversial comments about rape by GOP Senate candidates in Indiana and Missouri that contributed to their defeats in November. Republicans had been hoping to win control of the Senate but ended up losing seats instead, and they lost strength in the House as well. …

That is my favorite Freaudian slip of all time.

What made it even funnier was when one of the democrat leaders (like a John Kerry or somebody of his "stature" in the party) was complaining and criticizing Armey about it, and he said (verbatim) "Dick Armey can call Barney Fife 'Barney Fag' and then call it a slip of the tongue, ..."

So this oh so eloquent and pompous democrat criticized Armey for a slip of the tongue for referring to Barney Frank with the wrong name while referring to Barney Frank with the name of an inept fictional deputy that can't be trusted with more than one bullet for his gun. Hilarious.

He is right.

In addition the GOP put off a lot of people by its poor treatment of Sarah Palin.

Strategy and tactics are both important things but they are not the same things. The GOP seemingly will never ever learn this.

It is really amazing how some candidates carrying the tea party banner for major offices like Senator were absolute ignoramuses when it came to making statements that hurt not only their own campaign but the Republican message as a whole.

And not just this year, but remember the lady that lost against Harry Reid and the ‘witch’ in Maryland in 2010. Good grief, they were embarrassing to watch.

While there is something to admire about grass-root activists becoming candidates, there is also something to be said about ‘vetting’ these folks by professional party politicians to make sure they aren’t kooks.

Every id10t whining about “takers”, Moochers, and/or ‘the 47%’ *is* part of the problem. no matter what, regardless of circumstances, when a person or group starts making blanket statements about large chunks of the popultion they are more of a problem than what they are whining about.

What I like about this statement is that It never, ever applies to Leftist. Evil always prevails with them no matter how much we try to avoid gernaralized statements. They will accuse of doing it anyway by picking out a new word and saying we are using a dog whistle like Rev. Al did on TV or get George Stephonopolis to ask about birth control (even though no one said anything) in primary debate to get the leftist template going. And the irony of all this is that the left gets us with their own stupid generalized statements. We use to call this demogaging.

If Republican politicians didn’t say dumb things the media would have lied and told the gullible American people that they DID say dumb things and the Sheople would have believed it.

Face it. Our media is OWNED by the left and they are completely corrupt.

I can understand bitterness and resentment right after losing an election, as we see here, but a POTUS candidate doing it while running for POTUS is arrogant and stupid, and his assuming he wouldnt be secretly recorded in this day and age is double stupid.

Another thing, after the first debate where is now looks like O was holding back RINO Sununu (part of the Romney campaign) goes to the MSM in an interview and arrogantly rips O’s lack of debating skills and rips him down personally calling him lazy, disengaged and incompetent. While this is (fun) party talk for AM talk radio host, a member of a POTUS campaign acting so arrogant just demeans the campaign and causes nothing but trouble.

The 'witch' ad was not agreed to nor paid or. it aired once on a public access channel in the wee hours of the morning.

no doubt that really got to the electorate ~

What you need to remember is that DELAWARE is not a Republican state. They like their commie candidates gay if they can get them that way.

politicians always get more votes when they fail to complain about the electorate!

sad but true.

didn't somebody tell Romney that one?

See, Preibus should have been on top of right off the bat ~ not just sending out a team to edumacate the Senate candidates, but also the pomposity running for present!

Most Americans get more than half their news from the net ~ and that doesn't mean Yahoo or AOL/Huffpo.

As I noted way back in March, or maybe earlier, any candidate ~ Romney being one ~ whose intent was to wait for the real campaign until a couple of weeks before the election and then flood broadcast TV with canned advertisments, was an idiot in this day and age.

I mentioned that several times more over the course of the summer, and then wouldn't you know it Romney and the MIttbots bought advertising time at double the price paid by Obama from the same folks ~ and ran canned advertisements.

He lost.

The money would have been better spent renting buses to take elderly infirm Republicans to voting stations!

Akin was not the one that Palin and the Tea Party Express endorsed, Sarah Steelman was, Palin tried to get Akin to withdraw. Palin did not endorse the Nevada candidate during the primary in Nevada either, in 2010. 2010 still turned out to be one of history's greatest elections for republican, largely because of the tea party. Why try to cover up something like that? You don't like Marco Rubio, or Toomey?

We need to focus more on the greater disaster though, the none tea party candidates.

While Palin got in Ted Cruz and Deb Fischer, in our only pick up in an open Senate seat, the virulently anti-Palin, anti-tea party candidate for president, lost it all and gave the nation 4 more years of Obama.

You know a lot of mormons recoil from the idea of supporting someone ~ anyone in fact ~ who has ever had anything to do with a religious movement they consider strange. Probably why the Mittbots who worked for McCain were so abusive to Sarah ~ she had been a member of a Pentecostal church!

It's a mindless sort of bigotry that has no place in political campaigns.

there seem to be several different groups or individuals who claim the mantle of leadership of the Tea Party when actually there doesn’t seem to be any group or individual with unquestioned leadership.

This happens when you get an uprising of grass roots citizens. No one and everyone is in charge of a centralized organization, mostly because of egos.

It’s obvious that Palin is important—but not in charge or she would have gotten her preferred candidate.

Armey is responding to this lack of professionalism and I agree with most of what he says.

I never said Palin is in charge of anything, just that she is the single most important individual, Armey is much less important and effective than Palin.

Armey’s group should have followed Palin’s and the tea party express’s lead and supported the woman, Sarah Steelman, over Akin.

Grass roots is what we need to overcome the gross incompetence and anti-conservatism of the GOP establishment.

You guys are a disaster.
