Adam Lanza's hard drive, which was found destroyed in his Connecticut home, may be beyond repair police say, leaving them at a loss to explain the shooter's motive.
When police first discovered the tainted hard drive, they believed that it could serve as a key piece of evidence in discovering why a 20-year-old man would terrorize an elementary school filled with children. It appears, however, that the shooter did not want his motive unveiled.
"The computer's hard drive appeared to have been badly damaged with a hammer or screw driver," law enforcement authorities told ABC News on Monday. Two other sources reported to a local Connecticut paper that the hard drive had been in pieces.
"He was eliminating [investigators'] ability to figure out what websites he had gone to or who he might have been communicating with," one investigator told Yahoo.
The little information that police do have confirms that Lanza was an avid player of violent video games.

His ISP has all of that info.
Hillary must have fallen and hit her head on the hard drive. It explains everything.
My drive, in pristine condition, reveals nothing other than the work I am doing.
But he was young and may not have known.
A really good data recovery fir should be able to reconstruct a lot of the data.
Does anyone else find this statement curious? The characteristic tool marks of a hammer and a screwdriver (even if the screwdriver is used like a hammer) are VERY different. With stupid statements like this, I begin to smell the whiff of politically convenient happenstance.
But maybe the aluminum in my hat is too tight.
Riiiight, and no one has EVER been able to get data off a damaged hard drive.
This stinks more every day.
The agenda must proceed unhindered.
What they found implicated the left... you can bank on it... too many strange coincidences in with this guy. Something smells as bad as Benghazi smells.
And was it a hammer or screwdriver, and why can’t forensics tell the difference?
“The computer’s hard drive appeared to have been badly damaged with a hammer or screw driver,”
...or it may have been a cougar bite, we can’t be sure.
Not if the coward ran a sophisticated level of proxies.
Then I read your point
"The computer's hard drive appeared to have been badly damaged with a hammer or screw driver," ... Does anyone else find this statement curious?
Now that you mention it, yes.
I wonder if we will ever hear what meds this young man was on, and for how long. There is where Law Enforcement and the Government should be focusing their attention. But I’m sure the pharmaceutical lobby is already lining up lawyers and PR agents to deflect any “unwanted attention” that may come their way...
Not if the platters have been physically damaged.
If it wasn’t an external drive, it would have had to be removed of the computer would have been obviously mangled.
He smashed it with a hammer to get access to the platters, and scarred the platters with a screwdriver.
Sounding a bit suspicious to me, too.
How many of these clowns go out with out leaving some sort of rant or manifesto? They want their 15 minutes.
>>Does anyone else find this statement curious?
Very curious. If he was accused to downloading music or kiddie porn, they would be able to reconstruct his entire online life from a handful of hard drive shards.
This is another leftist, anarchist, disaffected young male video game player. Since he was a child, any masculine tendency has been declared bad and has been medicated out of him. As a young adult, he has become the feminized metrosexual that everyone demanded he become to fit into their vision of society and he hates that society for making him into a virtual eunuch.
There are millions of these time bombs ticking across America. Liberals created this person, so they want to destroy his history and focus on the tools he used to kill.
