The national debate over gun control may have been pushed to the back burner in favor of the “fiscal cliff” battle, but President Obama remains committed to confronting the issue no matter the resistance from gun owners and the National Rifle Association.
In a rare appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Mr. Obama expressed strong support for a reinstatement of the federal ban on assault weapons, outlawing high-capacity clips and a better system of background checks for those seeking to buy firearms.
He’s long supported those ideas, as have many Democrats, but the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., has taken the conversation to new heights.
“That was the worst day of my presidency and it’s not something I want to see repeated,” Mr. Obama said of the massacre, which claimed the lives of 20 first-graders and seven adults, before the killer, Adam Lanza, shot himself.
The tragedy immediately ignited strong emotions from both sides of the gun debate. Democrats quickly clamored for stricter gun laws, citing Newtown as the last straw in a string of other mass killings including those in Aurora, Colo., and Oak Creek, Wis.
The NRA, a prime target of those seeking to limit gun rights, responded with its own plan to put armed security guards at every school in the United States. Several prominent Republicans, including Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, have suggested arming teachers as a last line of defense.
Mr. Obama, while not flatly rejecting those plans, does not appear open to them.
“I’m not going to prejudge the recommendations that are given to me,” Mr. Obama said. “I am skeptical that the only answer is putting more guns in schools.”...

If the house GOP brings any gun control bill to the floor ever, I will be f’in pissed off and that is when I will truly turn off my spigot of support to them. It should not only be DOA, it is be DBA (dead before arrival).
So Obama doesn’t like armed guards in schools but has NO problem with his own kids being protected by 11 armed guards..without hypocrisy liberals wouldn’t have anything left..hypocrisy is all they know
He can go F his big eared self. Assault rifles (as they are called) are my ultimate protection against being murdered by my government. If they try it, they likely can do it, but it will come with a nasty price.
When someone can guarantee it would never happen here, we can talk. But remember, in 1913, Germany was a civilized nation. Education was probably the best in Europe. It had more citizens who could vote _by far_than either France or England. Jews were respected citizens fully sprinked throughout society. It was the home quite literally of poets and philosophers. Protestants, Catholics, and Jews all had thriving churches.
If someone then had informed them that in three decades, they would murder 6 million Jews in death factories, and would work hard to locate and murder every Jew in France, Holland, Poland, Ukraine, etc, they would have been thought of as some kind of crank or nut.
Nobody can promise me that a holocaust is not in Americas future. Even today, the papers had one article that the constitution should be abandoned, and another NRA members should be executed and that the GOP leaders of the House and Senate should be murdered like James Byrd in Texas, dragged behind a pickup.
Substitute “Jews”, “Tutsis”, “Amenians”, “Kulaks” for “NRA members” and the old nasty theme becomes clear.
It’s a special irony that at the moment Obama becomes more and more totalitarian, (ergo,,an existential threat) he wants us to disarm.
I would love to hear nobama’s definition of an assault rifle.

Hell, any weapon can be used to assault someone. Even non-weapons like a pickaxe qualify.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Mexicans and two U.S. Border Patrol agents were killed because of Obama’s and Holder’s “Fast and Furious” gun running to Mexico.
And he wants to lecture the NRA? What unmitigated arrogance.
It is plain to see that they lack respect for constitutional law, their oath to support and defend it, the people and their rights, and consider themselves elevated to the standing of rulers over them. No amount of pleading, whether oral or written, will deter them from their course as they see themselves empowered by the votes which allowed them to occupy high office.
I have no respect for them or their unconstitutional edicts. That is as it should and will be until such time as they are removed from office and replaced by their betters. I have written representatives before citing law, common sense and logic. Agenda trumps all three and they are pursuing an agenda. What we are watching now is a badly produced sequel of a very old drama. I know how this ends and so do you. So I will just lurk here to see which way the winds are blowing, await the pop-flares and offer a comment or three.

I think a ban on drug abusing, foreign, anti-American, Marxist homosexuals as president would serve America better.
