BIG BEAR (CBSLA.com) Several weapons and cold weather survival gear have allegedly been found inside the burned-out truck owned by accused killer Christopher Dorner, CBS News has learned.
A law enforcement official working on the investigation told the network a Coleman stove, cot and propane gas supplies were found inside Dorners Nissan Titan.
Two long-range rifles with suppressors and a Glock handgun were also reportedly recovered.
The truck was discovered early Friday morning on a dirt service road between Bear Mountain and Snow Summit resorts approximately seven hours after Dorner allegedly fired at officers, killing one and critically injuring another, in Riverside. A third officer in Corona suffered a graze wound.
The 33-year-old Dorner is also wanted by Irvine police in connection with the murders of 28-year-old Monica Quan and her fiance, 27-year-old Keith Lawrence, on Feb. 3.
The official also told the network that the discovery does not preclude the possibility that Dorner has additional weapons and gear.
Dorner remains at large. Officers on Saturday resumed their search in Big Bear for Dorner.
Elsewhere in Buena Park, Irvine police confirmed to CBS2 that detectives served a search warrant Friday evening at a storage locker belonging to Dorner.
According to a public information officer, items of evidence were collected.
Good possibility, or he may already be a goner. Either way, I think it will end violently. I get this feeling he does not want to be taken alive. I wonder if Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will weigh in on it?
May he wind up as bear scat.
I’m with you, James. This guy is being made out to be a Rambo. I don’t think he’s all that. You’ve pointed out the reasons.
Will this mean they will stop shooting up pickup trucks everywhere because they “match the description” in the mind of the shooting officers?
He's either used this as a diversion (and he has another vehicle) or he is going to be dead soon.
LOL...you seem to believe everything and anything the media feeds you.
A stove, some propane for the stove and a cot aren’t much in the way of camping equipment and don’t qualify as survival gear by any stretch of the imagination.
Nice to see a voice of reason here ;)
Friday - Feb. 8 [Noon]: The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., along with the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, issues the following plea to suspected cop killer Chris Dorner.
"Dear Christopher Dorner; Apparently you have been wounded by your past experiences of what you have stated in losing your job. I understand your feelings of being hurt. I'm making a plea to you to stop spreading the pain, the hurt and the fear. Please stop don't take anymore lives.
Christopher, your mother is in pain and concerned for your safety. There are many good and creditable people in Los Angeles, like The Los Angeles Sentinel's Executive Publisher/CEO Danny J. Bakewell Sr., Bishop Noel Jones, Bishop Kenneth Ulmer and Rev. Charles Singleton. These individuals I know personally and they would gladly receive you. Whatever I can do without hesitation please contact me through Danny Bakewell at the L.A. Sentinel.
Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr."
I pray for the latter before any other innocent lives are lost.
A Coleman stove, cot and propane would be useless gear in high country in low temps - especially zero or colder. A Coleman stove is clunky and heavy compared to ultralight gear commonly available. Same goes for the cot - dumb choice due to air circulation under the cot. In sub-zero weather, closed-cell foam with adequate bags is the norm. Finally, propane delivers poorly in colder temps. Not as bad a butane but white gas or native fuels would be better choices. IMO, these items are decoy materials. Some people are of the opinion that he’s dead and covered with snow up in the mountains. I doubt that. He’s nuts but he’s not stupid.
There's another reference to that magical term...."Allegedly".
The word that needs no explanation, no verification and certainly no proof. It ranks right up there with the word "May":
As in, he "May" have a .50 cal rifle....or he "May" not....
Don't kid your self, this guy is a seasoned vet and a trained LEO.
BTW, he is making the LAPD look like fools shooting at innocent citizens, you know the "professionals that should only be allowed to have guns"
The guy is crazy and evil no doubt, but sit back and learn how one man can drive the Government into a frenzy.
This is what Rush calls a "teachable moment".
They will only shoot up burned out pickup trucks with broken axles.
Dorner LOVES the Federal Government.
This is rather scary in a way.
Imagine a small group of men. All with IQ 130+
Skilled in survival and combat.
What if they took the time to very carefully plan out what they should do.
How on earth could they be stopped?
Certainly NOT by the LAPD.
I guess we have been very lucky so far.
I was looking at a time line of the events. Seems they found his burned out truck. An hour LATER they sent out a bulletin to Nevada Highway Patrol with a description of his vehicle.
Either really a) bad reporting, b) the cops don’t know what the heck they are doing, or c) he had another vehicle staged that may have been witnessed by someone.
I’ll go with “a” and “b”. The cops make him out to be some Rambo guy so when they can’t catch him they don’t look so bad.
IN Walden New York that would be several pickup trucks..
uh oh.
Jesse and Al will be fighting over who gets the eulogy at Djorner’s funeral.
The cot would only make sense if he had a destination in mind where he could hide and it would need to have been pre-stocked.
