Talkers, the definitive magazine covering the talk radio industry released its annual Heavy Hundred list of the most important hosts in the country.
Many of these top talkers were interviewed for the book, while three of the top 20 hosts in the country praised The Right Frequency: The Story of the Talk Radio Giants Who Shook Up the Political and Media Establishment by Fred V. Lucas (History Publishing Co.).
Mark Levin, nationally syndicated conservative radio host, ranked #7 on the Talkers list and said: Fred Lucas not only delineates the roots of talk radio as a venue for communicating conservative political thought in the 1930s and 40s, he explains how it has become, in the 21st century, the life force for the conservative movement and the voice for conservative ideals on the current political landscape. Anyone who loves talk radio will love this book.
Mike Gallagher, a nationally syndicated conservative host ranked #15 on the Talkers list said: The Right Frequency is an insightful, thorough, exciting chronicle of the talk radio story. This is destined to be a classic as it perfectly captures the nature of talk radio in a way no book Ive ever read ever has.
Alan Colmes, a nationally syndicated liberal hostranked # 16 on the Talkers list, said during an interview with Lucas: I enjoyed it because Im in the business and I think you did a really good job in writing about the business including, I notice Im in there a little bit.
The Right Frequency by Fred V. Lucas explains how talk radio has impacted American politics. Virtually all of the top political hosts on this list are featured in the book, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Michael Savage.

Interesting.
For me I started listening to “right” talk radio mid July 1992 (was an anniversary present) to Rush Limbaugh.......finally a person who said what I thought.
I had the first RUSH ROOM, in the Cadillac Bar, in Houston, in the late eighties.. It was packed every day by 11am.. It stayed that way until RUSH signed off..
The problem was that some tables didn’t turn over as most tables stayed less than an hour in the rest of this and every other restaurant..
It didn’t matter, I loved it, and it pissed off all of the right people, and I lost more than a few of my regulars because of my actions in putting the room in.. :)
I remember hearing Rush for the first time in 1996, and thinking, “I’ve never heard anyone say out loud what I think and feel.”
I remember reading about Rush Rooms.......good for you.
When he had his TV show, some of us old ladies would watch it together the next day, from tape.....remember tape? ;-)
Exactly like I felt. We had very little money, so my husband took a vacation day, sent the kids to a baby sitter and said stay in bed have breakfast and listen to this.......
holy smokes....I just could not beleive it.
The next year he got me a shower radio, so since 1993 nearly every day Rush and I have showered together........;-)
I ordered the book through Amazon and finished it last week. I enjoyed it, it’s a very interesting and informative read.
It could use better editing if it goes in to reprint. There are numerous grammatical, sentence structure, and punctuation errors. It’s as if the proof reader was Bonzo.
I found RUSH on the radio quite by accident one afternoon, and said out loud, to myself, “this guy is going to get in trouble climbing into my head, and saying what I was thinking”.. LOL
I love that.......yes I totally understand Limbaugh lives in my head rent free as well.
Savage at #5 most influential
Interesting that Dave Ramsey is at #3
I may have heard him the first day he was on the radio. I’ll never forget it. When I heard him, I thought to myself that he won’t last long as those who hate him will make sure he doesn’t last. Little did I know. It was on WHO radio from Des Moines—the radio station of Ronald Reagan.
I’d always had talk radio on with right leaning hosts — Barry Farber, Bob Grant —— and when Rush came on, that first day, I was listening. One of the first things he said was that he wouldn’t have guests. I clearly remembering just looking right at the radio and saying “I wonder how long YOU are going to last without guests!!” But I liked him right from the start and before long I was saying to myself — “This guy doesn’t NEED guests!” LOL! He sure doesn’t!
I became a devoted fan when I saw how he could look at a topic and come at it from a different angle than anyone else. He still does and it makes you think when you have a different view of the subject at hand.
He really is quite unique!

I’m part of the new class. While I have a Rush Limbaugh subscription and I like him a lot, I have wandered off a bit.
I listen to other hosts like Rusty Humphries, Steve Deace, Dana Loesch, Laurie Roth, Vicki McKenna, Andy Parks, Pete santilli, Glenn Beck, Doc Thompson, Spencer Hughes, Alex Jones, Hagmann and Hagmann, Michael Savage, Mark Levin, Dennis Prager, Andrea Tantaros. Jay Severin and the hosts on red state radio and Agenda 21 Radio among others.
Not every day, but I check into them and hear podcasts when I can.
I also am trying to locate the shows they post clips from on Birther report to follow them. Any show inviting Mike Zullo or anybody’s peaking about Obama’s identity is worth my time.

I should add since Steve Malzberg on broadcasts live and there is no podcasts I can’t hear him. I also gave up on Laura Ingraham and Herman Cain as I have no time.
