Steve Irwin jokes will still get you in trouble.
Rick Mayer of The Tampa Tribune reports the Rays have made an official statement in regard to the polarizing picture of Raymond holding up a sign referencing a "Rays To Do List."
Under the header, Steve Irwina popular wildlife expert who was killed by a stingray in 2006has his name crossed out with "World Series" next on the to-do list agenda...

Steve would have thought it was funny.
Another example of the wussification of the American “male”.....
I don’t find the “joke” funny at all. I think it’s just another indicator of how far people feel the need to push the envelope of provocativeness. But, I don’t think I would fine anyone over the fact that they have bad taste.
If the sign is funny, then Maher’s Halloween is just as funny.
I agree, its bad taste but not worth getting excited about. Making a big deal out of it only assures that Irwin’s family will find out about it when it would be better if they didn’t have to know.
That was EXACTLY my thought!
Jokes a little (actually a whole lot) dated, might have been more effective in 2007 when people still remembered the tragedy. But after seven years I imagine a lot of people don’t even remember who he was or how he died.
I doubt his wife and daughter would have.
I hope they don’t back down, and tell anyone who complains to do a certain physical act “if they can’t take a joke”
It's the law.
I couldn’t agree more. Some people are so desperate for attention they don’t care how nasty they are.
As a Rays fan I got to admit I laughed at this....
And I don’t think Irwin’s family will get all upset.... they haven’t missed their 15 minutes to milk more off his memory. Heck I would not be surprised there is Steve Irwin night at the Trop later this season.... Bindi can have her photo with the stingrays in the Rays Tank near the main entrance
It has often been said, the only bad publicity is no publicity.
I think the difference is that Maher was dressed up as Irwin for Halloween, while the Rays were implying that getting rid of Irwin was on their bucket list.
Maher wasn't wishing Irwin ill, but the Rays were (albeit jokingly).
My point was that Maher is constantly bashed on FR for that costume. I don't think I've ever heard a Freeper say that they thought Maher was funny when he wore it (and it was shortly after Irwin's death). Yet, this Rays thing is supposed to be funny.
I think we both agree.... neither one was funny.
