North Texas Drivers Stopped at Roadblock Asked for Saliva, Blood
NBCDFW ^ | November 19, 2013 | Scott Gordon

Some drivers along a busy Fort Worth street on Friday were stopped at police roadblock and directed into a parking lot, where they were asked by federal contractors for samples of their breath, saliva and even blood.

It was part of a government research study aimed at determining the number of drunken or drug-impaired drivers.

"It just doesn't seem right that you can be forced off the road when you're not doing anything wrong," said Kim Cope, who said she was on her lunch break when she was forced to pull over at the roadblock on Beach Street in North Fort Worth

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is spending $7.9 million on the survey over three years, said participation was "100 percent voluntary" and anonymous.

But Cope said it didn't feel voluntary to her -- despite signs saying it was. "I gestured to the guy in front that I just wanted to go straight, but he wouldn't let me and forced me into a parking spot," she said

-snip-

An agency spokeswoman sent an email confirming the government is conducting the surveys in 30 cities across the country in an effort to reduce impaired-driving accidents.

“Hot air, papers with scribbling on them, telephone calls etc... produces nothing physical...”

So, when are you going to Washington to physically protest this federal assault on Texans?

So I’m a local hothead? :)

This is the most egregious thing that’s happened here so far! I’m getting ready to call and vent...

Because they told the driver it was voluntary. They asked her to pull into the parking lot area for a voluntary program

DUI checkpoints are identified as such. If they are looking for a bad guy in the car (i.e. a road block) they tell you so.

She signaled that she wanted to go straight ahead, and the uniformed (off-duty) police officer wouldn't let her pass, and forced her into the parking lot.

That's unacceptable.

She said it certainly didn't feel 'voluntary'.

Voting....not stamping your feet, writing letters no one will ever read or telephone calls that will never reach the ears of the person you are calling are trivial and timid ways to deal with politicians.

The Red Kriptonite that kills politicians who don’t “haul the water” for their voting base is VOTES against them in the next election. That actually has a great bearing on “PHYSICAL” action. Standing around yelling and stomping your feet is an accepted fact because it will simply go away when the protesters get tired of calling, writing or physically standing in front of their offices protesting.

Organizing is the key and this is exactly how the left has won the number of victories they have. People in the slums, colleges and higher education and especially who are hired by government on all levels have time to go to key organizational functions while the working class normally can’t take the time off to enjoy the benefits of liberal employers.

However, the specter is on the hill and it is called the Tea Party and those who support it in/out of office. The movement is growing ever larger as the stupid low information voters suddenly find that they have handed the hangman the rope they will be hanged with.

Voting, our last avenue of hope.

Yes JRandomFreeper, my secret has been found out for I have been a troll since 1997 just waiting to jump out and make a comment on this very article.

You are an astute and one hell of a good detective however naive you may be.

How many elected officials have you had in your home? I've had several that I've held coffees for at the federal and state and local level.

Voting does matter, but politicians do listen to their constituents, regardless of what you have heard.

Right now, before an election is an excellent time to get action from those politicians that want to be re-elected.

Perhaps you are the one without real, on the ground experience with politicians and campaigns, and naive about how things work in the real world.

Anyway, you can take your negativity and discouragement of the vox populi and hide them where the sun doesn't shine.

Um, yes. I read the article, watched the video, and have scoured the news services for more info.

Now answer my question.

Did you read my post?

By read, I mean really read my post. Now read my post while feeding the dog, not read my post while making dinner.

Because you seem distracted, or if not distracted you just intentionally have decided to not comprehend. Because if you are not distracted, or intentionally being obtuse then you are... Well, not very good at reading comprehension.

Do you get that the troopers in uniform are pulling people out of traffic? That is not voluntary, and lacks consent.

Are you aware that the troopers are surreptitiously measuring BAC prior to getting consent? No framework for probable cause is even attempted.

What are you correcting?

I will wrap my tin cup in the aluminum foil hat I wear. For safe keeping, and to keep the CIA from bouncing radio signals into my coffee.
