On CNN’s Piers Morgan Live Tuesday, in a brief discussion about President Obama, Barbara Walters actually said, “We thought that he was going to be - I shouldn't say this at Christmastime, but - the next messiah” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

PIERS MORGAN, HOST: You have interviewed every president of my lifetime. Why is Obama facing so much opposition now? Why is he struggling so much to really fulfill the great flame of ambition and excitement that he was elected on originally in 2009?



BARBARA WALTERS: Well, you've touched on it to a degree. He made so many promises. We thought that he was going to be - I shouldn't say this at Christmastime, but - the next messiah. And the whole ObamaCare, or whatever you want to call it, the Affordable Health Act, it just hasn't worked for him, and he’s stumbled around on it, and people feel very disappointed because they expected more.

It's very difficult when the expectations for you are very high. You're almost better off when they are low and then they rise and rise. His were very high and they’ve dropped. But you know, he still has several years to go. What does he have, three years, Piers? And, you know, there will be a lot of changes, one thinks in that time.

Just imagine someone of Walters’ stature actually admitting that she and others expected Obama to be the next messiah. . . .

I fail to understand how anyone of Walters' intellect can consider this of a man who languished as a college lecturer for 12 years without ever once earning a promotion.

I didn’t realize she had any “intellect” always thought she was dumb as mud. I remember when Alex Haley’s book “Roots” came out, Comedian Phyllis Diller said that he was doing a book on Barbara Walters’ family to be entitled “WOOTS”.

Based on what?

He only served in the state senate a couple of years. He only served in the US Senate a couple of years.

The MSM wanted someone who would be or appear to be greater than GWBush, so they made Obama into the image they wanted. His claim to fame? He was good at reading prepared speeches off a teleprompter.

Had YOU and the rest of the media done the job you claim is yours -- vetting candidates, you would have discovered how shallow Obama was. But he fitted a profile that the MSM could elevate. That was okay, until it began to lose air and faultered.

The first questions "I" asked when Obama was giving the speech to launch his candidacy in February of 2007 was:

Who is this guy and who is backing him? One doesn't just wake up on day and decide to run for the presidency.

The MSM never answered those questions.

Obama bought the media hype. That is why the styrofoam Greek columns at his first acceptance speech after he won in 2008. Those columns were as fake as he was.

I think subconsciously they replace God with government

They think they don’t need God, they are comfortable and they don’t worry about money. But they do need God, then they seem to love having to serve government (just the democrat side, of course) its why they dutifully sign up for obamacare

The irony is they’re the dopes. The religion they choose by default, govt worship, is not based on truth. So it falls apart
