New Mexico Supreme Court: Same-sex marriage legal

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico's highest court has legalized same-sex marriage, declaring it is unconstitutional to deny a marriage license to gay and lesbian couples.

The state Supreme Court issued its ruling Thursday. New Mexico joins 16 states and the District of Columbia in allowing gay marriage.

Eight of the state's 33 counties have started issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples since August, when a county clerk in southern New Mexico independently decided to allow the unions.

RE :”Republicans are not opposed to “gay marriage”. Conservatives are.”

I can agree with that except that conservatives ARE Republicans, like it or not.

True, Conservatives are the only Republicans that really oppose gay marriage but I find their arguments against it, the key weapon in a country where elections are key, are also lacking too.

I recall a decade or two ago when so-cons like Robertson and Falwell were smart enough to separate behavior and actions from types of persons.

And what is the intellectual basis for treating gays as if they were a separate race or sex , protected class?
Except Scalia you ever hear this questioned

Republicans, the organized party, have made a clear decision not to fight the marriage fight. Without institutions, all we have is ad hoc activity.

I don't exclusively blame the elected Republicans in the blue states, they get elected by those who buy the gay rights crap. If Dems took their jobs away it wouldn't have helped stop this.

I dont hear hear/read arguments against gay rights that are designed to convince others.

Democrats used the winning arguments : That these people were born this way and if we deny them marriage we are punishing them for who they are, like *we* did the Blacks, Jews,Hispanics, women, in history.

The few Republicans who argued against it just argued : "Well, I believe that ..."

That will not win.

I do think a lot of the problem is due to the fact our side blindly accepts the "born this way" BS that they came out of the womb attracted to other men's butts and can never change that fact.

I talked to some "open lesbian" the other day who had been loudly championing gay "rights" for all the years I've known her, now apparently she's fallen for some guy, gotten pregnant, has "gone through a lot of changes" and is "no longer gay". Of course she's pissed when I brought up the "born that way" BS and tried to talk to her about it. Civil rights, my @$$. You don't see black guys turn into asians one day.

New Mexico's highest court has legalized same-sex marriage, declaring it is unconstitutional to deny a marriage license to gay and lesbian couples.

Supposedly bright legal minds who graduated from law school and sit on a state High Court essentially declare that language is unconstitutional. It is unconstitutional to recognize that a man cannot be a wife, and a woman cannot be a husband. Marriage is the union of a husband and wife - that has nothing to do with denying "rights", "discrimination", etc. - therefore it is simply language - simply reality - that they be a man and a woman. However, adhering to the basic concept of language is unconstitutional and therefore illegal. The government has the power to redefine something it did not create or define to begin with - as authoritarian as you can get.

That these people were born this way

That's interesting considering these same people don't believe you are a certain gender based on how you are born - you can fully developed male genetically and anatomically but really be a woman trapped inside of that body.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!

Gay men might be a different story, evidence seems to point to a genetic factor (like there's a genetic factor for any number of mental diseases, I say so what) but facts seem to bare out that most lesbians go lesbian because they have been abused by men or are at worst actually bisexual.

Your pal may have always thought chicks were hot and figured she was a lesbian with peer pressure reinforcing this. She probably suppressed every natural attraction to a man she's ever had in order to fit in with her lesbian clique. Lesbians strongly hate women that play both sides of the fence because they all fear their GFs will leave them for a man.

Yes, we’re talked about this before.

Our side (even the “good people”) rarely offerers any counter argument beyond a religious appeal (which is completely non-effective on anyone who is not religious).

“I believe it’s wrong” or “The bible says it’s wrong”. Isn’t gonna change anyone’s mind. Certainly not now.

Meanwhile the left utilized an effective propaganda operation designed to emotionally appeal to people who may not care so much about this stuff.

You gotta fight fire with fire.

back in 1963, the barna research group found 2/3 of americans believed in absolute truth. in 1993, only a third believed in truth. i suspect the number is even lower now. w

when people turn away from absolute truth, then they will believe anything.

Let’s be accurate. They have changed the definition of the word “marriage” to make it mean something it has never meant, in order to weaken the institution of marriage.

That's it exactly. We keep talking about the Bible, and the left talks about Freedom. In an increasingly secularized society, there's no contest there. We would know that if we stepped outside our echo chamber and engaged the outside world.

Actually, the left talks freedom, pushes tolerance, until they have control over the halls of legal power, then they rule with an iron, intolerant fist. We are just about there now. With the pirate Roberts placed over the subPreme Court, the end is now visible for the dying We The People Republic.

The whole thing is a mental disorder, period.

I’ll also add that unattractive wimmin “turn” dyke - the ones back in HS and college that couldn’t give it away. The ones I had pegged are on Facebook these days with their “spouse” or “life partner”

...gag...

Yes, that would be a great argument for us to make, instead of more sniping at “the faggots”, which only reinforces the standard meme.

what does any of this mean? In Conn., the House was 114-37 before 2010, so the elected Republicans barely existed. What Republicans got elected because they were pro-gay?

The DEMS got to 114 due to the following:
DEMS got re-elected 52% to 48% after voting along with the gay marriage agenda for several years ... in blue-collar middle-class districts with much opposition to gay marriage ... the GOP knew well that if they attacked these legislators in a mailing on the marriage issue, they could be beaten ... the half of the population that opposed gay marriage felt strongly about it and were angry ... and many are DEM voters ... and the half that supported gay marriage are largely ambivalent. The GOP state central and state party run out of Hartford, however, did not want to create a backlash against gay marriage ... they did not want to build their future on a foundation that included the religious right. In fact, there were a few instances, where the DEM incumbent had been 'no' on gay marriage and the GOP recruited an opponent who was pro-gay and attacked the incumbent on the issue!

2010 midterms was a backlash year. Voters voted against Dems and many voters who elected Obama didnt turn out.

I know there were more than a few here who claimed that the many of the same Americans who elected Obama and the Dem 2009 congress suddenly because Rush *conservatives* but that silly

2014 will be similar, a backlash year. Not voters coming out for Republicans. Many who voted in 2012 will stay home in 2014,, I wont draw conclusions about 2016 from that either.

Ronald Reagan did a lot to further liberalism though people thought he was “conservative”.

Hopefully you are not trying to argue what two talk radios hosts do, that all state electorates are the same, Texas and Massachusetts are both the same, the only difference between the tow is that most Mass. vote stay home every election day for the past 30 years (since Reagan) because they are waiting for a Ted Cruz to be a MA Senate candidate.

So they sat home and let a Liz Warren be elected but as soon as a Ted Cruz is nominated as Senator (in Mass.) they will come out again.

I hear them tell their listeners this and wonder who is dumb enough to buy it.

Voters (most citizens) in NY, NJ and MA are completely different than in Texas or Alabama.

so we have anarchy and chaos due to some who think having sex with asses and feces or pretending to be a guy with a strap on is normal.

It’s a sham marriage and they know it no matter how many times they pretend they are accepted .
