Sen. Ted Cruz hires lawyers to renounce his Canadian citizenship
Washington Times ^ | Monday, December 30, 2013 | Cheryl K. Chumley

Sen. Ted Cruz isn’t leaving any room for doubt. He’s reached out to his lawyers — and met with billionaire businessman Donald Trump — and is taking steps to renounce his citizenship with Canada.

The tea-party favorite said he only discovered he held dual American-Canadian citizenship after the Dallas Morning News reported it a few months ago. But he doesn’t want the issue to become an albatross — as it did for President Obama over his birth certificate when a host of sources, from politicos to Mr. Trump, questioned his true place of birth. So Mr. Cruz is taking a dramatic action.

“I have retained counsel that is preparing the paperwork to renounce the citizenship” with Canada, he said, The Daily Mail reported.

Mr. Cruz said he expects the process will wrap in 2014.

The Dallas Morning News reported in August that Mr. Cruz’s parents lived in Calgary when he was born, and they only moved to America when he was 4 years old. Mr. Cruz’s citizenship has taken on especial importance in recent months as talk about the next presidential election simmers, and the Texas senator is thought to be a possible GOP candidate.

Mr. Cruz said to the Dallas Morning News that he’d discussed his birth with Mr. Trump — who once launched his own investigation into Mr. Obama’s birth certificate — but “not in any significant respect.”

Ted is the only conservative who could fire up the base.

Otherwise the Democrat/media complex is going to choose our candidate again.

I can understand why Cruz would want to give up his Canadian citizenship, but why muddy the waters by reaching out to a joke like Trump?

As long as he has U. S. Citizenship, that’s the part that matters to me.

The buffoon in the White House now has never satisfactorily confirmed his citizenship.

I submit we have an illegal alien squatting in the White Hut.

Do you think Ted Cruz is planning for a 2016 presidential run?

When will Obama renounce his British citizenship?

I think he is a citizen because his father was someone else and it was written on a birth certificate has long since been put through a pineapple shredder. If you ask me we have an identity thief and a forger in the White House.

Is there any question?

That would be my guess.

Well, we’ll give him up if he have to. You need him (not that we couldn’t use him up here!).

Hey, maybe he should keep it. There is nothing in the Constitution about somebody running for president AND Canadian premier.

He would be a lot better than the current imposter who is not even elegible to be president.

Trump is a joke as long as he’s backing RINO candidates But I predict he and his money will not be so funny backing a good candidate

He’s smart enough to not take the country for granted and knows it needs protection from more destruction

I don't believe Obama qualifies as a NBC. Likewise, I don't believe Cruz qualifies as a NBC. I am, however, in revolution mode thanks to the over-reach of the socialists and communists pulling government strings today. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were not NBC's either. It's time for those who believe in the ideals America was founded upon join forces. All Constitutional Conservatives are welcome under my tent and, based on what I've seen thus far, I'd be honored to join forces with Cruz.

And egotistical enough to think he's the answer to the problem.

I haven’t been following this..Was Cruz born in Canada to American citizens? Were his parents Canadian and he became a naturalized citizen when he was 4?....”citizen” does not mean “natural born”.

But ... to be clear ... it would be my preference that Cruz would honor the original intent of Article II, identify an eligible candidate for POTUS, and rally all of us around that personality. That would provide all Constitutional Conservatives the best of both worlds : honoring the Constitution combined with Conservative leadership.

And what, exactly, was the "original intent of Article II"? And how did you become aware of it?
