What if the tea party decides to walk away from the GOP in 2016? It could happen.

I would really like it to happen, but it won’t. It requires accepting that it WILL have some impact on some elections. It WILL hurt the GOP. Of course, that means it will help the Dims. But ... the only way to change/get rid of the GOP is to hurt it. The “hold your nose and vote” is exactly what permits the GOP to kick us to the curb. They know that despite all our protestations we will trudge to the ballot box and vote regardless.

It will take boldness and courage to take over, etc the GOP. We have to show that we are not lemmings and lackeys. However, I just don’t see that happening. We will hold our nose. We will vote. And not a d*** thing will change.

I hope I am wrong, but don’t think I am.

Unfortunately, if the Tea Party were a full blown 3rd party, then we would have Hillary Clinton or another liberal Democrat elected in 2016 in a walk.

Realistically, you would see Hillary get 40+% of the vote, a tea party candidate getting about 30%, and the Republican get about 30%. Hillary would carry most states with a minority of the vote, but the way the electoral college works, with states giving their votes winner take all to the biggest vote getter, this is very possible.

In 1992, Bill Clinton got only 43% of the popular vote, Bush 41 had 38%, and Ross Perot got 19%. Clinton won the electoral vote easily because of winner take all in the electoral college.

Splitting off the tea party makes sense only if you want to look past 2016 and try to build up a major political party built around conservative values.

Sorry to be so negative. Just my opinion.

I honestly think the GOP would like to kick us out and lose.

And of course then whine incessantly about how its our fault they lost.

IMHO, it’s a no brainer, “follow the money”:

Most of the GOP-E would be still safely fat and happy- as lobbyists, consultants or the like - with Hillary as POTUS.

They’d have something to gripe (and, more importantly fund raise) about, but Boner, McInsane and their ilk would not miss a meal or a paycheck with any Democrat elected.

The Tea Party is far more of a threat to their very comfortable status quo. At the least they might have to at least act as if they had any convictions (besides feeling just as “entitled” to that check as anyone on welfare in the inner city), at the worst they might actually have to do some governing.

Were I a selfish bastard of a GOP-elitist (wait, I repeat myself) President Clinton II would be much more to my economic benefit than President Cruz, Walker or Christie.

That would cause filth like Osama Obama,Dirty Harry,Bella Pelosi,Princess Liawatha (Rat Presidential candidate),Governor Deval "Coupe Deval" Patrick (Rat Presidential candidate) and,of course, the Former Twelfth Lady herself,to "climax" in their pants.

The only hope for this country, short of secession (which is looking better and better to me every day) is to work to change the party from *within*.

>A Cruz/Palin REPUBLICIAN ticket would save our country.

The MSM would never allow them to win. The urban blighted ones would all come out to insure a lose.

3rd Party? Heck, we'd need a 2nd party, first.

So have I.

Trouble is, the RNC / RNCC / RNSC e-i-e-i-o “E” groups still have me on their mailing lists.

I dutifully return their mailings with all the contents of the envelope I received, cut up in little pieces.

You’d think they’d get the hint by now.

But nooooooooooooo

I see 3 distinct parties:
1. (D) Democrats who can be relied on to cast their votes in a manner that will harm me and sell out my country.
2. (R) Republicans who can be relied on to “say” what I want to hear, but can be then relied on to vote against my interests and the interests of my country.
3. (T) Trustworthies who can be relied on to say what they believe and then vote and act on those beliefs.
Who do you want to rely on?

The key to a “third” party is to make the GOP a third party. It will take some time, but the ground work is there.

I would put some money into it. I’m 67 and no longer will support the moderat views of the GOP. How many times will you let them pull the football away.

If you’re much younger than me, you’ll be in for a lot of anger and frustration if you stay in the GOP.

If the GOP passes amnesty, grassroots will walk away before the
2014 elections and stay away.

They would rather kill the tea party and lose, than to win with a resurgence of tea party victories, making conservative ideology more mainstream within the (r)epublican party.

Exactly.

Ask the Cubs how well that strategy has worked out for them over the last 103 years.
