Oprah Winfrey interested in Clippers bid: WSJ

Oprah Winfrey is joining with entertainment mogul David Geffen and Oracle Corp. chief executive Larry Ellison in hopes of buying the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Clippers. The future ownership of the Clippers is in question after team owner Donald Sterling was banned for life from the league on Tuesday by NBA commissioner Adam Silver. The ban was in response to a recording of racist comments that the league said were made by Mr. Sterling, who acknowledged it was his voice on the tape, according to Mr. Silver.

I’m all for the ruining of the NBA and the NFL. Both leagues are social engineering laboratories for leftists.

the dude is 80, he just needs to hand ownership over to his children, and this issue is over.

One's dead and I don't think he's close to the remaining two. His estranged wife has talked about taking over the reins but I thing Silver want's the whole Sterling family out of the NBA so I think he's willing to do the nuclear option and push to have his ownership stripped. Silver's only been in the job a few months and he needs to take a stand early on if he's going to have any control over the owners.

Jordan wants the clippers.

Jordan already owns the Carolina Bobcats. Or at least most of them.

The circumstances, the hatred, invasion of privacy, the blow up to way above what Kerry did, above JPII’s canonization, and the results, the wait out to drive down the price.

Why we ascribe virtue to these media moguls is a mystery

But in this economy, it may go for bargain basement prices anyway.

In Memphis or Minneapolis maybe. But not LA. Too much money and too many people willing to pay to be a sports mogul there. The Clippers are worth upwards of $600 million. If they where the Columbus Clippers or the Kansas City Clippers with the same record they'd be worth half that.

I’m thinking that if Orca buys the team, it should be renamed after the former NHL club, in Hartford. “LA Whalers” sounds about right :)

If Sterling transfers ownership to his wife or surviving kids, the NBA can’t do squat. He wouldn’t technically be the owner anymore and thus couldn’t have his ownership stripped.

NBA has to approve change of ownership I believe.

bull, if the dude died ownership would transfer automatically to his heirs and there is diddly squat the NBA could do about it.

This is just great. The oprah is a bigger racist than the White guy. But that explains it. White guy = $sh!t.

It seems there is one person we forgot that may make a bid for the Clippers: Henry Samueli, the owner of the Anaheim Ducks and a very rich man himself. He could easily buy the Clippers from Donald Sterling for US$700 million and move the team just “down the road” to the Honda Center in Anaheim, which is the home arena of the Anaheim Ducks and easily configurable for NBA games.

Oprah had a thought...If a white racist can own an NBA team why not a black racist?

Not sure she would be such a good owner.

She didn’t have too much success with the school she started in Africa. It was wrought with all kinds of problems.
