Then last week the story began to crumble faster than an ancient papyrus exposed in the windy Sudan. Mr. Askeland found, among the online links that Harvard used as part of its publicity push, images of another fragment, of the Gospel of John, that turned out to share many similaritiesincluding the handwriting, ink and writing instrument usedwith the "wife" fragment. The Gospel of John text, he discovered, had been directly copied from a 1924 publication.
"Two factors immediately indicated that this was a forgery," Mr. Askeland tells me. "First, the fragment shared the same line breaks as the 1924 publication. Second, the fragment contained a peculiar dialect of Coptic called Lycopolitan, which fell out of use during or before the sixth century." Ms. King had done two radiometric tests, he noted, and "concluded that the papyrus plants used for this fragment had been harvested in the seventh to ninth centuries." In other words, the fragment that came from the same material as the "Jesus' wife" fragment was written in a dialect that didn't exist when the papyrus it appears on was made.

Jesus DOES have a wife already, called the CHURCH.
Thanks for the ping Kartographer
I’ve long ago come to that same conclusion.
Another clue: Atheists, Muslims, Marxist, and other assorted groups, not matter how they may hate each other can always unite to attack Christians and Christianity.
I have a theory. I think the demons in Hell (yeah, yeah, I know, no one’s in Hell just yet. Work with me) will compete with each, will war on each other. They’re demons, after all.
But they all know who the real enemy is, and will unite against Him.
And that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
Some idiots were all excited because they thought that this would finally be the downfall of Christianity, and they would be rid of those evil colonialist Christians.
Jesus,he was my BOYFRIEND!
It was later shown that the snippets they took from the shroud was from a part that had undergone French reweaving, where cotton had been dyed and woven into the original linen fabric, probably in the 16th century. It was done to restore a section of the shroud that had been damaged. The introduction of 16th century cotton into the linen would have skewed the carbon 14 results by a huge margin.
The image on the Shroud is a Jewish man who would have been around Jesus’ age. And the image shows puncture wounds on the victims head where the Crown of Thorns was supposed to have been put. Not 100% proof, but it’s interesting.
How did they determine his religion?
What’s illustrative, but not unexpected, is that the average person will have heard the “news” (as widely reported this Easter) that a papyrus had proven that Jesus had a wife. The average person will not hear that the papyrus was proven to be a hoax.
It might be possible by determining what the shroud discloses about how the body was prepared for burial. One of the debates on the shroud is whether Jesus was washed according to proper Jewish custom and if so the wounds would not have bled. Another point made is apparently the body was wrapped in strips not one whole cloth.
In any case, the shroud itself sheds light on the burial preparation and indicates the customs of those who wrapped him.
Thanks for posting!
There was a show about this recently. An original member of the Shroud’s research team from 1978 confirmed that there was something from the later medieval era in the cloth right where the sample was taken that would have skewed the 88 dating results:

“The fact that so many people who dont believe in Jesus spend so much time and effort trying to prove everything about Him is untrue, proves that satan is real.”
The fact that in the Gospels it describes how the authorities tried to pay the guards to say that His apostles had stolen the body, and that people maintain that to this day really says it all. Don’t assume it is only people who don’t believe in Jesus that do this; the Pharisees knew exactly who He was and went ahead with their plans anyway. The parable of the tenants beating the landlord’s servants (the prohphets) before murdering his son (Jesus Himself) made it clear that Jesus knew THAT THEY KNEW WHO HE WAS (and were rejecting Him anyway)...
That’s because there is nothing to test. Carbon 14 dating destroys the sample, and the Catholic Church has not, so far, allowed any other clippings from the shroud.
Thank you. This will probably be ‘rediscovered’ in 20 or 30 years and the brouhaha will be repeated.
Sam Kinison pretty much explained why Jesus didn’t have a wife.....

Facial reconstruction of the face image on the Shroud with modern techniques.
Why would a married Jesus conflict with Christian belief?
