Government officials, reacting to the growing voice of conservative news outlets, especially on the internet, are angling to curtail the media's exemption from federal election laws governing political organizations, a potentially chilling intervention that the chairman of the Federal Election Commission is vowing to fight.
I think that there are impulses in the government every day to second guess and look into the editorial decisions of conservative publishers, warned Federal Election Commission Chairman Lee E. Goodman in an interview.
The right has begun to break the lefts media monopoly, particularly through new media outlets like the internet, and I sense that some on the left are starting to rethink the breadth of the media exemption and internet communications, he added.
Noting the success of sites like the Drudge Report, Goodman said that protecting conservative media, especially those on the internet, matters to me because I see the future going to the democratization of media largely through the internet. They can compete with the big boys now, and I have seen storm clouds that the second you start to regulate them. There is at least the possibility or indeed proclivity for selective enforcement, so we need to keep the media free and the internet free.

Hannity is conservative?
They just want to practice censorship.
There will be no discussion or criticism of
Good. Lord.
Not only do the oversteps not stop, but they come faster and from every direction. *Thanks* for your list.
Ain’t gonna happen.
Revolt is coming!
That's the playbook. We've been living with it since they got in. :(
They know they are beginning to lose, that they cannot maintain control with truthful information out here.
This is why the FCC tried to get their “observers”, read; REGULATORS/POLITICAL COMMISSARS, into all media outlets just a few months ago.
About dang time...
Not really, but the Left thinks he is...
This was tried in Seattle against conservative radio. The liberals got their asses handed to them in court.
But the NY Times does not. Nor CNN, ABC, C-SPAN, etc.
Again. The system is broken. Under what part of the Constitution does the FCC even have a righ to EXIST?????
The SCOTUS started this slippery slope years ago. Instead of being a defense of civil liberties against the encroachment of government, it has evolved into an organ of individual repression, employing the law enforcement establishment and governmental bureaucracies as its weapons.
Um, the Chairman is putting out a warning saying this is the mentality he's fighting against from other members of the commission. Sounds to me like he's the good guy here.
And of course I am sure that Politico and WaPo and others will be too....;)
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
The FEC CHAIR said this??? When will Obama fire him?
Some Obamite will probably mail him a photoshop of him in a compromising position with a donkey soon.
