NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Even as Republicans preach the need for solidarity, divisions between the tea party and the GOP establishment are clear at a national conservative summit.
Former Republican Party Chairman Haley Barbour played the part of elder statesman Friday, warning delegates to the Republican Leadership Conference that the party must embrace compromise to win more elections, particularly the 2016 presidential contest.
"In a two-party system, purity is the enemy of victory," Barbour said. "Never forget that the purpose of winning is to govern. And never forget, you have to be a big party before you can win elections."

The further the Republicans shift to the Left, the further the left shifts toward the Left.
You'd think all these pundits and strategerists would have this figured out by now.
And the unsaid purpose of governing is further accumulation of raw power and wealth.
A GOP congress will not vote to repeal Obamacare, will not investigate rat crimes resulting in impeachment and conviction of the guilty, nor will it roll back the unconstitutional powers that Obama and the courts have gathered about themselves.
IOW, elections alone cannot remedy what ails our once republic.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I don’t doubt someone offered them a choice: Prosperity and capitulation or disclosure and disgrace (real or invented). Seems like most have caved.

Recall Hillary had over 900 FBI raw data files on 'leading' Republicans, and with the NSA's snooping, the rest is filled in on those who have risen in the ranks since.
Either one is so squeaky clean they'd make sainthood, or there is some dirt, somewhere (or something that can be made to look like dirt) to use as the stick.
The carrot, of course, is continued prestige, power, and the promise of wealth (not many po' folk on Capitol Hill).
In this day and age, there are few who couldn't be Alinsky'd with the dirt (or appearance thereof), and fewer still who wouldn't sell out.
Statesmen are an endangered species.
Time to fire Haley Barbour and the “appeasement chorus” of the Establishment GOP. These people who’ve been selling out Americans to the Dark Side Democrats for decades.
And those they can find nothing sordid on are eliminated. Look only to how the Republican Party of Florida redrew the districts from the 2010 elections to make sure they got rid of rising stars Allen West and Sandy Adams. The sorriest thing is that they had an additional 2 districts added to work with. Even worse, it was essentially the Democrat offered plan they eventually went with.
Under cover of recent USSC rulings that emasculated the rules for special drawn districts for creating minority members they still left them virtually alone.
That was when I ended my support for the Republican Party.

You are exactly correct. Elections will never fix what has been broken in the last 100 years of this great Republic. Tyrant and pissant power hungry majorities being elected to higher offices that appoint their “friends” who are cut from the same cloth will keep ruining this great Republic.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

Now, the RINOs have no problem with compromise, they have been so compromised, they feel more welcome among the Democrats. So, compromising to pass the Democrat agenda serves what purpose exactly?
The purpose of winning elections is NOT "governing", not for Republicans. The purpose is to enforce the US Constitution, that's what the elected politicians take an oath to do. They don't swear on the Bible to "govern". They swear to defend the Constitution.
So, Haley, that's our problem with RINO establishment ruling class elites. They're on the wrong page, they're out of touch and in the end, they lose everything, because they have the wrong goals, all the while happily compromising they way to hell on earth. Moron.

That just about says it all. In other words establishment Republicanism will surrender any one (likely more than one) deeply held value, belief or ideal to gain and keep power.
That means sovereignty, newborn life, religion, financial responsibility, self-protection (from criminals and government), and the rule of law are all just ‘impediments’ to appeasement and eventual capitulation.
The problem with this ideology is that establishment Republicans will do NOTHING once the do gain or keep their power. They’ll still sit reach across the aisle to stone faced Democrats and give them everything they want like a good little abused dog. Then they’ll engineer more Cloture and Show votes so they can go back home and lie through their teeth (oops, Democrats took that away, didn’t they? Never worry, if establishment Republicans get the Senate back, they’ll reinstate it, won’t they?)
In actuality, establishment Republicans are as bad, or worse than Democrats. I get so fuming mad when I hear good ole boys like Barbour try and tell me ‘how it is.’ Screw him.
Then why do the backstabbers such as McCain, Ayotte, Flake, Bush2 etc etc campaign as constitutional conservatives to get elected? Then after getting elected as conservatives they decide they need to compromise to win.
Their nonsensensical reasons for betraying us defy logic.
I came to the same conclusion. Although I wish Col. West had contested the election, I questioned the idea that he was in a tight race to begin with, after re-districting.
I called for him to be the 2012 VP candidate. Allen West just might have made the difference. Regardless he would have achieved national recognition. And when the governor of Florida needed a replacement for the Lieutenant governor, he could have selected West for the similar reasons. Nyet. It is apparent to me the GOPe do not want Allen West around, and the Dems are rather glad for this as well.
The Constitution is as close to Purity as man can get, and the GOPe rejects it.
They may support the Constitution in theory, so as to appease the Low Info Voter, but in application, like obama, they have no use for it.
How about the Establishment Republicans go along with Conservatives this time? Why do we always have to give up on our principles?
