We are still at war in Afghanistan. It’s not the Afghans we’re fighting, it’s the Taliban. Team Obama just negotiated the release of 5 top-commanders in the enemy’s “Army”, to get back a traitor and deserter. There is no way to spin this as good.

NYT, Post, Chicago Tribune, Philly Enquirer all meet at some point with Obama. Have to in order to so perfectly coordinate their talking points aka propaganda to feed the sheeple.
No, it is not true that the US always trades for prisoners. Tell that to all prisoners released at the ends of other wars.
Yes, it does matter that the US traded 5 generals for one deserter PFC. Since it is demonstrated in the section above that the US has no policy always to trade for its citizens held in custody by other nations, then we are left simply with the value of the deal. It's like trading 5 Tanks for one pea shooter, and a broken one at that. It was a stupid deal; it was an inept deal.
Finally, NO, President Obama was not right. This isn't about the PR value of the deal, and that was a disaster. This is about the specifics of the deal. It revealed again total incompetence. The problem with again revealing Obama’s incompetence is that friend and foe alike will not just take be surprised at how gross the incompetence is, but they'll begin planning how to take advantage of it when it shortly happens again in some other area.
If nothing matters, then why are we even fighting the Taliban? Why are we in AFG, Obamas “right war”? I’ve been asking myself these questions for 5 years. If we are just expending resources and having our troops killed and wounded under asinine ROE, why? All so Obama can get his jollies? Or does he even acknowledge we are even there when Valjar doesn’t remind him?
My wish is we will never fight another war for hearts and minds. If we have to go to war again I hope it’s a war of overwhelming force, “no holds barred” to smite the enemy and come home, to teach our enemies that we fight to win and leave an enemy devastated so the next bad actor thinks twice. Not these stupid political wars that leave us weak and our enemies emboldened. I know it’s a fantasy because politicians, especially libs, see our military as a toy.
