CHRIS MATTHEWS: Let me finish tonight with a flashback. From the moment I heard about today's shooting down of a Malaysian airliner over Ukraine, I remember that 1983 shooting down of a Korean airliner over Soviet airspace (Korean Air Lines Flight 007). Back then, the Soviets, still in a Cold War mindset refused to even admit responsibility for the deliberate murder of 269 passengers including, U.S. Congressman Lawrence McDonald of Georgia who was aboard. Here's how President Reagan reacted:
REAGAN: What can we think of a regime that so broadly trumpets its vision of peace and global disarmament and yet so callously and quickly commits a terrorist act to sacrifice the lives of innocent human beings? What can be said about Soviet credibility when they is a flagrantly lie about such a heinous act?
MATTHEWS: I can tell you, he was speaking for the American people back then who were absolutely furious at what the Soviets had done. Their cold-blooded killing of so many innocent people, their brutal destruction of so many human lives, their utter lack of compassion for the people aboard that plane. Here's the way our president and we, the American people, felt:
REAGAN: We know it will be hard to make a nation that rules its own people through force to cease using force against the rest of the world, but we must try. This is not a role we sought. We preach no manifest destiny. But like Americans who began this country and brought forth this last best hope of mankind, history has asked much of the Americans of our own time, much we have already given, much more we must be prepared to give.
MATTHEWS: There are events like this today that no one forgets, especially not today.

Agree. The guy has the worst case of Washington Swamp Fever I have ever seen. He views every thing from the inside DC perspective and has no relationship with the real world any longer. That is insanity.
This country has never had such a President. There have been average people who have been elected to this office before, and found it in themselves to rise above their limitations, and put their own egos aside to become exceptional leaders. Such was the case of Abraham Lincoln and Harry Truman.
However, we now find ourselves with no one at the helm of the rudderless ship of state. There are no words to express the sorrow about what is now being foisted upon once great United States of America. But, we shall rise to greatness once
again once this national nightmare has ended.
But, but, what about the crease in Obama’s panties? Surely that was a sign of leadership. < /sarc >
Thank you for this link. WE need to put partisan politics aside: impeach & get a REAL PRESIDENT!
Sounds more like a trickle down his leg now. He got all wee-wee’d up, I guess.
In September 1983 Chrissy McTingles & Sam Donaldson were cheering the death of Rep. Lawrence McDonald on KAL Flight 007 as one less “evil rightwinger” in the U.S. Congress.
Hope Chrissy gets his lights seriously punched out. But his linebacker bodyguards are there to prevent that.
):^(
Sounds like the Bromance is on the skids, doesn’t it?
Has Matthews changed or is he changing back to the old Matthews?
Obama is just another end product of LBJ's War On Poverty.
Without the War On Poverty there would be no significant moocher demographic.
Without the big moocher demographic there would be no Obama.
Without the War On Poverty Obama would still be getting rich by stealing grant money from the black community back in Chicago.
Do Americans feel the same today..nope.
Americans today simply pretend the rest of the world is not out there...yet they have a sense of unease unconsciously knowing something is very wrong.
Some think the end times are near but I doubt it. The end of America at the hands of our enemies abroad is very near in my opinion. The final epitaph will be that most went to their untimely deaths believing their country was not at war....
What’s happening to Chrissie Matthews?
How do you know that? Romney was never elected president.
If it is only your opinion, you are entitled to it.
I agree with your thesis. So, where do we go from here? Is the country finished if more and more dependents are created every year?
Got that right.
I was wondering why Rachel Maddow was so obsessed with Reagan and the Korean shoot-down tonight.
Mathews is an actor. I’ve seen him on other shows and he’s calm and actually reasonable. He does his bit for the CNBC audience to get his big paycheck.
I posted the Reagan speech here shortly after Obama’s mess up. Got deleted. I see though it’s back up.
