Cake Shop Faces Legal Action For Refusing to Make Anti LGBT Cake
Denver Eater ^ | 1/20/15 | Andra Zeppelin

Azucar Bakery owner Marjorie Silva refused to make a Bible-shaped cake complete with strong anti-gay wording and imagery.

Azucar Bakery found itself in hot waters over the message that was meant to go on a Bible-shaped cake, reported Out Front Colorado. The staff at the South Broadway spot refused to write "God hates homosexuality" and other anti-LGBT text and imagery on a cake that a man attempted to order.

The man came in and began ordering a cake. After he found an image of a Bible-shaped cake to his liking, he showed the bakery employees the message he wanted displayed on the cake, the gist of which is hateful toward the gay community. Uncomfortable with the incident, owner Marjorie Silva offered to make the Bible-shaped cake and sell to the customer a decorating bag so he can complete whatever message he wanted himself. He immediately threatened legal action and left. He returned twice and had to be "excused" by the owner's brother the last time.

The man filed a discrimination complaint Colorado's Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Silva received a letter from the agency and had to reply to it. This is her reply, in part:

I can ... tell you that the customer wanted us to draw two males holding hands ... with a big ‘X' on them. I told him that we do not like to discriminate in this bakery, we accept all humans and that the message and drawing is extremely rude.

Silva still needs to file a final letter with DORA. The agency will then make its decision within 30 days.

Nice - take every progressive rule to its ridiculous outcome.

Good for the man who is attempting to use their own tactics on them-I doubt that it will work since the system is rigged-I also think it would have been more effective if he’d just tried to have them decorate the cake with the Bible verses which proscribe sodomy/homosexuality-but more power to him for doing anything at all. It’s more than the rest of us, including myself, have done.

Not much has changed from the Glorious Revolution of 1792.

It’s fine for her to refuse just like it should have been fine for the Indiana Christian baker to refuse service for “gays” and subsequently sued.

Further proof of “you can’t have your cake and eat it too”.

Close, but more like, "We accept all humans..."...but do not consider the prosepctive customer "human" because they don't believe what we do.

Considering others "subhuman" has repeatedly been the justification for oppression, slaughter, and genocide, and Liberals consider themselves the ubermenschen.

Actually, I fully agree. But the principle of whether only some have the Right will be tested (in which case there is no equal protection under the law). Pity the baker...

“Cake Shop Faces Legal Action For Refusing to Make Anti LGBT Cake”

No, it does not face any legal action at all.

I can agree with that, the hypocrisy is that she will be allowed to refuse whereas the Christian bakeries were not only not allowed to refuse, they were penalised for attempting to do so.

That’s funny. Senora Silva says she accepts all hoomans as they are.

So if I go in 2 days prior to Mexican Independence Day and say I’m celebrating for America with a cake that says “America Forever, Mexico Never”, she’ll happily bake that too, right?

Because that’s how I are.

Exactly, and I don’t pity the baker, because I have no doubt that she supported the abrogation of the right of the Christian bakeries to do likewise. I’ll apologise if it comes out that I’m wrong.

Seems to me that as a consumer, I am able to order what you have to sell.
If you offer variations to your ‘basic menu’, you, as the shop owner should be able to determine what you will or will not construct.

If you don’t care to ‘construct’ what I want, or demand, I just have to take my business elsewhere.

The reason I don’t(didn’t) drink in Black Bars, Gay Bars, S&M Bars, etc was I decided I didn’t want to or should just go where I am ‘comfortable’.

On the other hand, if your ‘biker club’ already has 2 establishments out on the ‘bypass’, why come and disrupt the little club downtown?

Among others, I belong to the VFW and I do(did) NOT really like people in the place that don’t ‘belong’.

I do NOT belong to the Moose or Elks or Lions, so why should I expect to demand them to accommodate me?

To ‘bolster’ membership, the VFW and Legion (among others) have units called ‘Sons of AL’ and the VFW ‘Mens Auxiliary’
which allow sons of ‘eligible Vets’ to join and use the facilities.

So now, the same clowns that have been ‘laughing at us for serving’, going right down to the dissidents etc are now sitting in the VFW as a member because there Father or Grandfather or even Son served (I have ‘less’ of a problem allowing the Parents of eligible sons ‘join’).

So whichever way you act, you are sued. No way to win here.
