WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US authorities should probe the Clinton Foundation instead of going after FIFA officials abroad, Wall Street financial analyst Charles Ortel told Sputnik.
“The FIFA prosecution is outrageous. It reflects a complete double standard,” Ortel said on Thursday. “The first thing that the United States should do is to get its own financial house in order.”

Ortel, who is investigating the financial records of the Clinton Foundation, argued the US government should investigate institutions based within the country with suspect financial records rather officials in Zurich-based FIFA.

NEW YORK (May 25, 2010) – President William Jefferson Clinton, honorary chairman of the USA Bid Committee, today hosted members of the USA Bid Committee Board of Directors who span the sectors of public service, sports, education and more in an important summit behind the campaign to bring the FIFA World Cup to the United States in 2018 or 2022.
The meeting took place at the New York City office of the William J. Clinton Foundation in Harlem and included 15 members of the USA Bid Committee’s Board of Directors who are dedicated to the national effort on behalf of the bid.

NEW YORK (April 8, 2010) – Counselor to President Bill Clinton, Douglas Band, has formally accepted an invitation to join the Board of Directors for the USA Bid Committee in its effort to bring the FIFA World Cup™ to the United States in 2018 or 2022.
Band has worked alongside President Clinton for more than 14 years, serving a variety of roles dating back to Clinton’s time in the White House. He has served as President Clinton’s chief adviser since 2002, counseling him and serving as the key architect of Clinton’s post-Presidency. He created and built the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) that to date has raised $57 billion for 1,700 philanthropic initiatives around the world spanning climate change, global health, citizen service, education and the empowerment of women and girls, which in total impacts more than 200 million people in 170 countries.

As with many professional sports, the money isn’t in the game itself. It’s in the eyeballs it gathers, which can be used as leverage for hefty broadcasting contracts and marketing deals.
From 2007 to 2010, FIFA’s total revenues were $4.189 billion—and 83 percent of that ($3.480 billion) came from the sale of television and marketing rights for the 2010 World Cup. From 2011 to 2014, FIFA’s total revenue was $5.718 billion—and 70% of that ($4.008 billion) was from the sale of television and marketing rights to the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA’s general secretary, Michel Zen-Ruffinen, the second-highest-ranking official in soccer, said yesterday that he had evidence of corruption in the world governing body directly involving Sepp Blatter, FIFA’s president.
‘’It wasn’t a case of the president being bought, but it was a case of the president buying,’’Zen-Ruffinen said. ‘’In one of the cases an instruction was given on behalf of the president. The second one was a direct payment.’’
