Let’s uproot the pernicious, unproven claim that Ted Cruz attacked Donald Trump’s wife

There is no evidence that Ted Cruz attacked Donald Trump's wife.

In a normal election year, this statement would be relatively uncontroversial. After all, it's true. Yes, there was an ad that ran in Utah, suggesting that because she had posed for provocative modeling photos, she was somehow unfit to be first lady. But, no, that ad was not from the Cruz campaign. It was from the Make America Awesome super PAC, a group that raises and spends money without input from any candidate, including Cruz.

How do I know that? Well, I know that if such a political action committee were to coordinate with Cruz -- say, by running an ad at his behest -- it would be a federal crime. I know a presidential candidate purposefully violating federal law is almost certainly not worth the risk. I know that Cruz was going to win Utah anyway, by a wide margin, so violating federal law to win with 70 percent of the vote versus 65 percent is a particularly dumb idea.

The ad itself mentioned Cruz by name. Cui bono?

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Like Watergate.

Nixon was going to win reelection in a landslide. That didn’t prevent him from covering up Watergate.

Do you know who purchased the rights to the photo?

I’ve read it was Cruz’ campaign not the PAC. If True, then the Cruz campaign is guilty of coordinating with the PAC.

Only a true main stream media liberal elitist would think that the American public is dumb enough to not understand how people of like political opinions can coordinate their activities without crossing the legal boundary of "directing" or "controlling".

That's why the writer is working for the Washington Post.

The old 'he couldn't have done it because it's illegal' gambit.

Funny - that hasn't stopped most of them in DC yet.

According to the experts, former CIA
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3414444/posts?page=1#1

From the above article, dissected by former CIA deception experts :

“...we were struck by the volume of deceptive behavior that we identified in these statements.

Behaviorally, when the facts are the ally of an individual, he or she almost always tends to focus on the facts of the matter at hand.

In this case, if the key fact was that he had not had these affairs, Cruz would almost certainly have been much more strongly focused on the denial. That is, he very likely would have made a point of explicitly stating something along the lines of, “I did not have these affairs.”

Have we proven, or disproven, the claim by GQ that it was Roe who bought a copy of Melania’s photo shoot?

I keep seeing people saying this but no one can give me a link where this is proven. People read it, but no one knows where they read it.

As if PACs don’t understand what their candidates want without written instructions.

The story is true! They wouldn’t cover for Ted Cruz or Donald Trump for that matter.. If there was a story there they would have covered it to keep the feud going!!!

So, I have done a few Internet searches about this.

I searched for: Ben Shales gq sales

Results: Nothing showing Ben Shales in GQ Sales.

I searched for: Ben Shales gq

Results: Nothing showing Ben Shales at GQ

Have you found anything authoritative that shows Ben Shales at GQ?

Also, there is a separate company, Conde Nast, that handles all permissions for the use of copyrighted photos from GQ. It is apparently not handled by anyone at GQ.

Do you have any information that contradicts that?

“I know that Cruz was going to win Utah anyway, by a wide margin, so violating federal law to win with 70 percent of the vote versus 65 percent is a particularly dumb idea.”

One doesn’t know, nor can one presuppose Cruz’s (or his supporters) state of mind before and after the voting

I don’t know if Cruz coordinated or not. It’s not yet clear whether Cruz’s campaign purchased the image, and gave it to the PAC, or whether the PAC acquired it separately itself. That leads to questions of coordination.
