Still smarting over President Donald Trump’s controversial immigration ban, Silicon Valley now is bracing for his next likely target — H-1B visas that supply local tech companies with thousands of skilled foreign workers.

I wish H-1B visa holders would start displacing college professors and media reporters. The howls of protest would be deafening.

I work for a very large electronics corp. It's a fact...they lay off American workers and backfill with H1b visa holders. Been going on for the last decade, particularly the last 5 years. I hope Trump gets a handle on this.

I work in the medical device industry. Too many H-1B;s in the companies I have worked for while good American engineers languish in the unemployment lines.
Kick them all OUT!

I work in information technology and I can assure you there is so much money changing hands and so much collusion this is going to be very tough. The H1B’s from India usually only get about 30% of what the company pays they have a contracting company that makes the biggest part. This is really a big scam and everybody get screwed. The company that hires, The person from India, and the American worker displaced by the Indian worker.

My son told me about this. The key is that the H1B's are indentured servants... if they lose the job they have to leave the country; if they last 3 (or maybe its 4) years, they get the green card. In the meantime, they can be asked to work 70 or more hours a week.

That squeezes Americans, who are paying off their college debts, because they thought STEM careers would be interesting and professional--40 to 50 hours a week.

When I hear about Americans being forced (threat of no severance package) to train their H1B replacements, it makes my blood boil.
Both my kids are STEM students, and the outlook of them having a 50/50 chance of full time employment in a STEM field a year after college graduation is depressing.
Get this RIGHT PRESIDENT TRUMP!!!

What’s not surprising is that when it’s obvious the Gov’t doesn’t do it’s job denying these visas. Taking advantage of their incompetence.

On top of that, they will work for as little as $8/hour and they squeeze 10 or more into a company paid apartment.

It is not uncommon for an Indian to be paid half of their US counterpart but only get $8/hr from it as their company keeps the rest.

Trump’s changes will favor the tech companies in Silicon Valley.

Right now, the fraudultent H1B visas are being used to staff the tech departments of non-tech companies, like banks and brokerage houses. Guys from India who are little more than glorified high-school graduates are being used to fill seats in operations and programming departments, at wages lower than American workers.

Companies like Amazon and Google really are hiring highly skilled foreigners and paying them high salaries. They will find that they get more visas, and companies like Cognizant and Tata get fewer.

Reading a book called Chaos Monkeys. It is about start up culture in Silicon Valley and the author provides a good insight about the corrupt H1-B1 visa program including using it to threaten employees who consider leaving their indentured servitude

I see these Indian single guys in packs at my local Costco here in Florida. One of the workers there was complaining to me that these guys pass around one membership card to all their friends figuring the workers can’t tell the difference. So they are cracking down on that.

>>thousands of skilled [cheap] foreign workers.<<

If they would do ROI studies they would see they are LOSING big-time since everything they (H1B) say is followed by “can you repeat that?” “again, but slower” “maybe you should just email me.”

That and every document needs to be rewritten by someone else.

Many times I just said “IM me, I don’t want to meet by phone (or in person).”

You should see them in college: They pass around papers so much their plagiarism causes them to be expelled from American universities. In India, plagiarism is expected.
