First ever Earth-orbit teleportation completed
Sky News ^ | July 11, 2017

Posted on 07/11/2017 7:12:10 PM PDT by Ciaphas Cain

Scientists have completed the first teleportation of an object from Earth to a satellite orbiting more than 300 miles away.

Alas, those of you expecting Scotty to beam them up soon will be sorely disappointed - the object teleported was merely a single photon.

While the experiment doesn't bring us any closer to teleporting matter, it is a huge leap forward for quantum physics.

The team of Chinese researchers behind the successful teleportation came together from a number of disciplines and included quantum physicists as well as rocket scientists.

In 2016, they launched a satellite called Micius, named after Chinese philosopher from the 5th century BC, from the southwestern Gobi Desert.

Micius is equipped with a super sensitive photon receiver which enables it to detect the quantum state of a single photon which is fired at it from the Earth.

This is how we will communicate instantaneously over vast distances in space.

They have a paired photon, that is merely changing state to match it’s other half.

This is not teleportation, because nothing travels.

It’s a mere changed state of something already there, one half in space and the other here.

That’s if I understand this properly, and as far as I understand this, this is all that could have happened.

I agree with you.

This is a big deal though, because changed states between multiple galaxies distant would happen simultaneously.

It would seem not terribly hard to devise a telecommunications device to communicate instantly rather than limited to the speed of light.

Imagine an series of clocks on earth calibrated using paired photons.

Wow...

Subs at depth all over the planet in pure sync.

Two computers manufactured side-by-side, with the exact same specs that have the exact same software loaded on them may boot at different speeds. Some will even load startup programs in different order etc...This is attributed to quantum state differences. They seem identical on the high level but it’s impossible to be truly identical on the atomic or quantum levels.

Is it the same with the photon in question?

I remember seeing a movie when I was young about a guy that was frozen when he died and later was thawed out when a cure was found. He was soulless and evil. Maybe Kurt Russle? Can’t recall the title either.

Quantum communication not only instantaneous at any distance but is also unhackable?

What is bullshit about teleporting entanglement information? The only thing interesting about this article, is they measured entanglement states between two photons at the furthest distance done up until then. It’s been done all over the place in labs. Teleportation is the fancy media word for headlines and is deceptive.

How do you know where the pair of a particle is to measure its properties?....could this mean that the universe is not that large or old since photonic properties can be communicated instantaneously. (I.e......way faster than light?) ...and vast amounts of time are not needed to move light vast distances.....distances mean nothing to entangled particles...help me...help me....

How is this teleportation? From the description, they shot a beam of light at it, and the photoreceptor received it.

From the article:

One of the most difficult to grasp aspects of quantum physics is how observing a quantum particle forces the particle's state to change.

This is known as the observer effect, and it is the result of the instruments necessary to measure the state of very small objects.

It's not the result of the instruments. It appears to be a result of the knowledge of the state of the photon. The classic double-slit experiment can be run with the photon detectors hooked up and running but not recording the data and the interference patterns appear - but as soon as the data is recorded (or observed) the interference pattern disappears.

To really get into the spooky stuff check out the Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser experiment where the interference pattern can be shown to manifest or not depending on a choice made by an instrument throwing out random choices at a time after the photons should already either have taken an unknown path or a known path and hence produced the interference pattern or produced the two bright spots. Way cool!

Youtube has lots of videos on the delayed choice experiment.
If you're into this stuff, check out Tom Wheeler's video presentation where he describes using a piece of film that will be developed at a time after the choice of whether or not to "know" the paths of the photons is made and guess what appears or doesn't appear on the developed film depending on what choice was made?

If you really want to get out there look into Jack Sarfatti's explanation of this effect (hint: retro-causal quantum interaction, ie. causing an action to happen or not happen in the past by a choice made in the present!)

Personally, this stuff is way too spooky for me. I like Einstein's opinion that "God doesn't play dice with the universe."

Yes, Micius is his name in Latin. Wikipedia lists him as Mozi, with Mo Di and Mo Tzu as variant spellings.

Circa 468 – 391 BC.

I remember seeing a movie, where a fly got into the teleportation chamber with Jeff Goldblum. That was scary. 😄😀🤗

I’m not in the field, so I can only convey my personal theories that may be wildly off base. Use them as food for thought and not a scientific proven fact.

Based off what I’ve read, for some reason these protons remain a part of each other over vast distances. What happens to one part of the proton (or perhaps one of the pair) is actually happening to the other part (or member of the pair) too.

For this reason I do not think of it as traveling. I think of it more like existing in two places at the same time. Change it here, it is changed there instantaneously.

Now, while nothing we know of to my knowledge explains the communication between the two protons or parts, something is communicating over the distance.

To my way of thinking there is something traveling that distance to cause one part to change “here” and the paired part to change “there”. (perhaps conflicting with my existing in two places at the same time theory, but even then some causal entity must be active)

We have yet to discover what that moving or notifying part is. (perhaps they do know or at least have a theory, I simply don’t)

This is some freaky stuff. Lots food for thought.

How do you know where the pair of a particle is to measure its properties?

You develop them in a lab. You keep one in the original location for testing. Then you transport one to the remote location of your choice. Then you have them in two locations for testing and observation.

You then change the state of one here. (not sure if that's the proper term, but it will do for now) As you do, you observe the remote one. If they pair up, you have success over distance.

...could this mean that the universe is not that large or old since photonic properties can be communicated instantaneously. (I.e......way faster than light?) ...and vast amounts of time are not needed to move light vast distances.....distances mean nothing to entangled particles...help me...help me....

I don't want to say emphatically no, but I do want to point out that these are not universal particles as I understand it. They are comparatively rare, I believe. Even if I am wrong and they are a part of all matter, there is so much matter that doesn't have the same characteristics moving around, that I don't think this embodies the type of contradictory evidence to say, "The Big Bang" theory you may have been thinking about.

Once again, this is my own personal theory (based in part on articles I have read over time) and is not based wholly on some single or a series of proven scientific facts.

I don't want you taking this as a proven fact, and ignoring other better explanations out there. This is only my attempt to explain it as I understand it, and I may be wide of the mark.
