“boyfriend” Oh how sweet. I’m starting to feel sympathy already. < /s>
Leave it to the guardian to care about the “rights” or prisoners, and not about their victims.

“Scooped up by police”. Too bad his innards weren’t being scooped up from the bank floor.

I must need more coffee.

There are places in the world where prisioners are not fed. It is up to the family to bring food for them. Now go cry me a frikkin river about your face-to-face visitation. Most likely this has interfered with somebody’s drug smuggling and they are upset.

How he gonna get his weed??

Snarks aside, if she was driving an hour each way, it wasn't "free" before, she was paying $5-7 in gas every time, and I'm sure there's time limit on the visits. This way, if you can pay for more time, you can visit longer.

I’ve seen it all. Contraband passed during contact and secure visits. Female inmates impregnated and visiting females impregnated. This will free up staff allow more resources to be devoted to staff contraband introduction, which is also a serious problem.

As the saying goes: “Don’t do the crime, if you can’t do the time.”

No doubt the inmates are served domestic champagne and the indoor pool only gets cleaned once a week! Such oppression!!

These articles are not for true prison reform which is needed desperately. It is a fluff piece to obscure the true inhumanity of prisons—the rape and real humiliation and degradation of the prisoners which make them more evil than when they go in.

The people who murder and kill and rape children need a death sentence—within a year of time of the murder or rape of child.

The system is far from being what it should be—a correction facility which needs to instill virtuous work habits and a mind change.

They need to force a Christian Bible study on all prisoners (they are no longer “free” and need a good ethics system (basic Christianity is proven the best throughout history—no other), and they need to learn work habits.

They need to learn to work and pay for their own room and board and not be living off the hard-working virtuous people. All visits, TV privileges, recreational activities, food other than the basic soup and bread, are only allowed for good behavior period—they have to earn them. Strict dress habits and all tattoo’s removed, all hair cropped short for males. All interaction with prisoners need to be on camera and recorded—especially by the guards and reviewed every single night.

Prisoners will not be able to be productive citizens, to be married, raise a family, until they learn and embed a work ethic and some basic morality. Habits are formed by repetition only and prisons can be a great place to control their activities and embed healthy habits. Now it is used to embed evil habits and an evil worldview so prisoners become future time bombs to destroy civil society.

I am a retired correctional officer. I can tell you that between visitations and phone calls, the inmate continues to operate his street business. Visits should be limited to holidays and earned by good behavior. All phone calls should be recorded.

Nevertheless, let us not forget that during a face to face visit in a Maryland prison Marion “Bitch set me up” Barry got a lewinsky in a crowded visitors’ room in front of children. Not one “visitor” or inmate complained. This was only picked up on a surveillance camera. Look it up.

With video visitation being phased in, those living in the vicinity of prisons can breathe easier because gang members and other low life will no longer be showing up in the neighborhood to visit their incarcerated chums.

Sadly, there are apologists for the criminals over the police here.. :/

It sickens me that there is still a system in the US that allows the physical contact between a convicted person (usually a felon) and his ‘mate’...

As far as I am concerned.. Prison is NOT about rehabilitating; it is about punishing those that commit a real crime :/
(speeding tickets are NOT the same thing here.. I am sure you get it..)..

How many person-to-person visits with family, do our military people employed overseas get to enjoy? Prison should be real punishment, then perhaps it might be a deterrent for crime.

If we are going to turn them loose when they complete their sentence, it would behoove us to treat them humanely. Regular visitation should be allowed for non-lifers to encourage good behavior and a better mental outlook upon release.

That said, I don't see the logic for allowing contact visits or conjugal visits - too easy to pass contraband items to the inmate.

There is a strong financial incentive for Democrats to keep the prisoner population high though - gotta keep the doors revolving to keep the money flowing, therefore, not much incentive to combat recidivism. In California, The CCPOA (California Correctional Peace Officers Association) contributes heavily to Democratic candidates, such as sending $2 million to Grey Davis in 2002 for example. 28,500 members currently (down from a high of 31,000 - 7,000 more budgeted but not hired) contribute $59 per month, or a total of approximately $20 million annually - that's a fair amount of political clout. More prisoners leads to more prisons; more prisons require more guards; more guards equal more fundraising capability; fundraising, of course, translates into political influence.

The lifers - including the 3rd strike inmates, are not ever going to be released so they don't need any contact with the outside, no potential benefit to society is gained by allowing visitation. I would put those on the chain gang and work them to death at hard labor.
